This dataset contains water temperature, bottom topography, currents, marine gravity, and sub bottom profiles taken from R/V Kaimei in the North Pacific. Based on the detail seafloor observation by remotely operative vehicles (KM-ROV and BMS), we observed the distribution of deep-sea hydrothermal activities and microbial and macrofaunal communities with the seafloor topography, obtained various types of rocks, sediments, hydrothermal deposits and waters, and animals. Most of the data and samples are still under investigation in onshore laboratories, but some of the data and samples were analyzed onboard and then interpreted and summarized as scientific articles. This cruise is U.S. State Department MSR U2022-047 as part of the World Data Service for Geophysics. Data are in text and instrument specific formats.

U.S. State Department Marine Science Research (MSR) agreements allow foreign research vessels into U. S. waters in exchange for receipt and public access of the oceanographic measurements collected. This dataset contains sixteen XBT datasets collected as part of Shipboard Environmental data Acquisition System (SEAS) III program. The cruises were conducted using many different ships. The bathythermograph (XBT) data was collected between August 30, 1990 and July 24, 1991. The data were sent from the cruise ships to the National Ocean Service, Rockville, MD via telecommunication. This data is currently available in the C116 file format of NODC.

This dataset consists of physical parameters of sea water (temperature, salinity, current speed and direction) measured at specific depths on a mooring in the Terra Nova Bay polynya close to the coast at about 130 m water depth. The data have been collected in the framework of the Italian marine observatory in the Ross Sea established since 1994 by the P.N.R.A. (National Research Program in Antarctica). Data files were received in Matlab data format, which NCEI has exported into netCDF. Both formats are available.
