The dataset comprises abalone abundance and algal cover information on 'control' reefs and 'translocation reefs' in Tasmania.

This fishery independent abalone abundance assessment project contains abalone density and size frequency data collected from transect surveys at approximately 25 sites, mostly in south-east Tasmania, but also the south-west coast, Three Hummock Island, Flinders and Hogan islands between 2002 and 2005.

The dataset contains length frequency information for abalone species, collected in all Tasmanian state waters from 1988.

Abalone growth data include estimates from growth increment data from tagging studies, and from shell ageing studies. Data has been collected from all Tasmanian state waters since 1986.

Starch-gel electrophoresis was used to investigate population structure of the commercially and recreationally exploited abalone, Haliotis roei. Samples were obtained from abalone taken from 10 sites in south-western Australia between March 1997 and April 1998.

The principle aim of this project was to map the fine-scale spatial distribution of key abalone habitat impacted by urchins in < 25 m water depth using multibeam acoustic imagery. Detailed substrate type (Pavement Reef, Megaclast Reef, Mixed Consolidated Sediment/Reef and Sand), and kelp coverage maps have been produced for the east coast of Tasmania. Large urchin barrens have been predicted and the minimum quantifiable unit of which small incipient barrens can be detected has been identified using this acoustic water column technique. This data provides a snapshot of the 2021 distribution of seafloor habitats and associated vegetation distribution, and will assist in the facilitation of strategic decision making for urchin control and abalone management. Data for download has been split by fishing block (22-24, 27-30). This record describes FISHING BLOCK 22.
