Coastal Plans Additional Plans
Dataset containing an indication of the geographic extent covered by Coastal Plans. The need for this information was identified by Stakeholders of the DSE Future Coasts "Spatially Enabling Coastal Assets" (SECAP) project in 2011/12. The dataset contains attributes identifying the report title, year of the report, unique identifier assigned to report, link that allows the report to be directly referenced, and link to source website page used to locate and obtain document. To support the capture of a suitable geographic extent covered by Coastal Plans each plan was reviewed and categorised in terms of the area it covered. For plans covering a local government area, Catchment Management Authority, Coastal Management Board area, or township, a nominal buffer was applied around the spatial extent of these administrative units. For reports containing a clear study area, this boundary was captured and used to depict the geographical area covered by the report.

Enhancing Marine Spatial Planning through Integrated Seabed Mapping and Science Communication

Pre-competitive geoscience information, including bathymetry compilations, seabed geomorphology and sediment stability maps and other spatial information is essential to support planning and investment decisions. Integrated, multidisciplinary datasets enhance our understanding of Australia's seabed and have wide-ranging applications across multiple ocean sectors. Bathymetric and geoscience maps are used to design surveys, identify areas suitable for offshore infrastructure, and provide important regional context for environmental impact assessments, thereby reducing investment risk and supporting evidence-based decisions consistent with government policies and regulations. Geoscience Australia’s integration and digital delivery of marine data provides valuable insights into the distribution and evolution of seabed features and their associated characteristics, processes and regulatory designations. Our Australian Marine Spatial Information System (AMSIS) provides a web-based interactive mapping and decision support system that improves access to integrated government and non-government spatial layers, tools, visualizations, and data for the management of Australia’s marine jurisdiction.
