The CFEV Estuaries data layer shows a statewide coverage of estuaries in Tasmania. Individual features (estuaries) are rated according to their overall conservation value (relative to other estuaries), as assessed by the Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values (CFEV) Program. The data also includes an assessment of condition and conservation management priority for each estuary.

The CFEV Saltmarshes data layer shows a statewide coverage of saltmarshes in Tasmania. Individual features (saltmarshes) are rated according to their overall conservation value (relative to other saltmarshes), as assessed by the Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values (CFEV) Program. The data also includes an assessment of condition and conservation management priority for each saltmarsh.

The CFEV Karst data layer shows a statewide coverage of karst areas in Tasmania. Individual features (karst areas) are rated according to their overall conservation value (relative to other karst), as assessed by the Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values (CFEV) Program. The data also includes an assessment of conservation management priority for each karst feature.

The CFEV Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs) data layer shows generalised point locations of known freshwater-dependent ecosystems highly dependent on groundwater across Tasmania. This layer mainly includes various types of springs. Conservation rankings for karst are not included in this layer and are provided separately in the CFEV Karst data set.

The Conservation of Freshwater Ecosystem Values (CFEV) (pronounced "see-fev") program is an initiative of the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (DPIPWE). Its aim is to ensure that priority freshwater values are appropriately considered in the development, management and conservation of the state's water resources. The program has undertaken an assessment of the conservation management priorities (CMP) of all freshwater ecosystems throughout the state. Through its comprehensive audit of the state's freshwater ecosystems, the CFEV program offers the first Comprehensive, Adequate and Representative (CAR) assessment of freshwater ecosystems conducted in Australia. This data is provided to support the Australian Maritime Safety Authority’s Oil Spill Response Atlas (OSRA) project.

This layer provides a spatial representation of freshwater ecosystem values that are key values in each reserve in the National Reserve System in Tasmania. Rivers, wetlands and waterbodies are included in this metadata statement.

This dataset represents wetland CEFs identified during the development review process since 1995. Prior to 1995, data is either unavailable or lost.Wetland CEFs were digitized from construction plans, environmental assessments, and City of Austin staff field observations. Features were digitized into a versioned SDE database in ArcMap. Wetland delineation may be determined through a process of negotiation with land development interests and generally reflect the most protective arrangement that could be obtained. Additionally, “fringe wetlands” were drawn using a standard 2’ width on either side of a waterway.
