This layer shows location of drainage sumps within the Metropolitan Region and is provided for information only. A Sump is defined as a retaining wall placed at the inlet or outlet of a stormwater pipe or culvert. A floodway is typically a longitudinal depression in a carriageway specially constructed to allow the passage of floodwater across it without damage or more simply, the channel & adjacent shore areas near a road under water during a flood. The pavement is that portion of the carriageway placed above the subgrade for the support of, and to form a running surface for, vehicular traffic. It is comprised of the trafficable part of the carriageway (i.e. the traffic lanes), plus the sealed and unsealed portion of the shoulder. When a road is widened the definition of the pavement extends to include the widening.
