Grasslands, Pre-Settlement, South-eastern Highlands. VIS ID 4099
Three sets of maps between them provide an almost complete coverage of the pre-settlement boundaries of natural temperate grasslands within the study area. They are the boundaries delineating grasslands of the Monaro (developed as part of broad vegetation mapping there (Costin, 1954; digitised by NPWS in 1998), the grassland boundaries in the ACT (digitised by ACT P&CS WRM) and the pre-settlement boundaries developed as a central program of this project, and covering a significant portion of South Eastern Highlands Bioregion. In Costin’s (1954) map of the vegetation of the Monaro region, the map units delineated represent Costin’s vegetation alliances. ACT vegetation was mapped by Pryor in 1939. This mapping included 5 alliances of woody species and one grassland alliance. This interpretation of ACT grassland areas has survived into modern mapping interpretations with some modifications. The current products mapped new boundaries for areas beyond the Monaro and ACT. This product present pre-European settlement grassland boundaries for an area covered by a series of 1:100 000 map sheets (Braidwood, Boorowa, Brindabella, Canberra (excluding the ACT section), Crookwell, Goulburn, Gunning and Yass). Vegetation map digitised from Lembit, R. & Skelton, N. (1998).; ; The vegetation of Copperhania, Barton, Dapper & Boginderra Hills NRs, located in central-western NSW, is described and mapped at a scale of 1:50 000 based on field survey quadrats, aerial photo interpretation and multivariate analysis. 25 communities in total are described for the four reserves, eight in Copperhania NR, six in each of Barton and Dapper NRs and five in Boginderra Hills.; ; VIS_ID 848

Six vegetation communities were mapped following field survey and full floristic sampling. Colour aerial photographs at 1:50 000 scale formed the basis of the vegetation map polygons. The images were interpreted stereoscopically for patterns of vegetation and geomorphology, and matched to the vegetation site data. A provisional vegetation map was drafted on acetate overlays and the linework and boundaries checked during ground-truthing. The study area was traversed and particular sites investigated to confirm polygon labels and resolve vegetation boundaries. The final vegetation polygons were then transferred and corrected to the 1:50 000 topographic map sheet and coded. Linework was transferred to hardcopy topographic mapsheets and digitised using a digitising tablet and ArcView 3.3. A code denoting the vegetation community was then attributed to each polygon based on the hardcopy linework. Dataset was reprojected by DECCW from AGD66 Zone 55 to GDA94 using ArcMAP 9.3. VIS_ID 4012
