HISTORIC ENVIRONMENTAL FLOW MONITORING
There exists across the State of NSW, a range of ecological data collected under various environmental flows projects since 1995. Most of this data is not stored in secure and available locations that may be used for long term data sets. This site is designed as an umbrella for this historic data to be stored and available into the future. One of the major projects that collected relevant data since that time is the Integrated Monitoring of Environmental Flows (IMEF) program consists of ecological monitoring projects across the regulated rivers of NSW. The rivers that were monitored included the Gwydir, Namoi, Hunter, Macquarie, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and Barwon Darling (Barka) Rivers. IMEF (the Integrated Monitoring of Environmental Flows) Program was developed in 1998 to monitor the first environmental flow releases across the NSW regulated rivers. It was designed to both monitor the first flow events and to develop environmental flow methods suitable for monitoring aquatic systems across NSW. Data was collected until 2012 in a range of aquatic systems affected by flow from regulated rivers. The rivers included the Namoi, Macquarie, Lachlan, Murrumbidgee and their tributaries. NSW Estuary Water Quality Data Compilation: 2007 - 2020

Estuary water quality data has been collected by the Estuaries and Catchments Team of the Environment, Energy and Science Group in the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment since 2007. Data has been collected using a standard monitoring protocol outlined in 'Assessing estuary ecosystem health: Sampling, data analysis and reporting protocols. NSW Natural Resources Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Program', most recently updated in 2016 and available on the NSW environment website. The data has been used to monitor the aquatic ecosystem condition of over 160 estuaries in NSW over time. Adopting the principles of the National Water Quality Management Framework, the data has been used to develop NSW specific guideline values for a range of physico-chemical water quality indicators for each estuary type. This allows comparison of observed data to these guidelines to assess condition of any estuary in NSW. As part of the Marine Estate Management Strategy Implementation Plan Stage 1, a NSW water quality database has been developed, where this data is now stored. Water quality monitoring in NSW estuaries is ongoing, and updated data will be made available routinely.
