An extant vegetation map was developed for the Namoi Catchment Management Authority (Namoi CMA) in 2009 by integrating all existing spatial datasets, undertaking some targeted mapping in identified gaps, and applying a standard regional vegetation community (RVC) classification (ELA 2009a). A pre-European vegetation map was also assembled in 2009 by extrapolating RVCs into the modified landscape using landscape association information and remnant tree point data (ELA 2009b). A multi-stage project is currently underway in the Namoi CMA to provide whole-of-catchment vegetation maps classified in accordance with a hierarchy based on vegetation types underpinning the Property Vegetation Plan; (PVP) - Developer.; Construction of a spatial vegetation layer for the CMA involves acquisition and compilation of all baseline datasets developed for various local and regional; initiatives using aerial photograph interpretation (API). A total of 12 major datasets were sourced and integrated into an API composite for the catchment and gaps in the mapping were completed using on-screen digitising of vegetative patterns against SPOT5 imagery.; The final product contains about 38,000 polygons, each tagged with its likely RVC based on a combination of available polygon attribution, rapid field reconnaissance and local knowledge and expertise. A total of 69 RVCs are mapped. The major types include derived native grasslands, grassy white box woodlands, shrubby white box woodlands, and Pilliga ironbark forests. VIS ID 3851

A vegetation map was produced for the Northern Rivers Catchment Management Authority (NRCMA) by integrating two products undertaken for the northern Comprehensive Regional Assessment (CRA), namely the forest ecosystem model and API coverage. The work was undertaken by Eco Logical Australia Pty Ltd in 2005. The new product represents a substantial improvement over the original forest ecosystem model as it provides nomenclatural consistency between forest ecosystem types and API polygon labels, includes remnant vegetation not originally captured by the CRAFTI API project, improves the spatial rigour of forest ecosystem distribution, and introduces a number of new ecosystems based on fine scale API and expert advice. The map incorporates 167 ecosystems covering a combined area of 3,332,900 ha, about 67% of the NRCMA region. It includes dry and moisttableland types, rainforest and wet escarpment brushbox and eucalypt forests, dry foothills eucalypt forest, rugged gorges woodlands, and non-eucalypt coastal types. The map includes a table which lists areal estimates for each ecosystem, including area outside the NRCMA region and pre-1750 area.; Albeit an improved product, the final map was assembled from two existing layers which have major limitations on private land, including an unsuitable vegetation; classification and a broad and often unreliable API layer. It is thus recommended that the product be used only in the interim by the NRCMA to support identification; and prioritisation of high conservation value vegetation, and that any attempt to reconcile the map with local landscapes be done with due caution.; ; The original NRCMA Veg layer is in grid format but was converted to polygons. Vegetation Map of Quanda Nature Reserve with Millyvale Addition. Original reserve area mapped 1998, Millyvale addition mapped 2003. The composition and extent of the present vegetation within Quanda Nature Reserve, including the recently acquired Millyvale property, is described and mapped at 1: 50 000 scale from intensive quadrat samples, field traverses and aerial photograph interpretation. This layer represents an attempt to reconstruct (predict) the native vegetation that would occur across administration area of the Central West Catchment Management Authoritiy (CMA). It has been constructed using existing mapping from diverse sources that has been standardised and merged. The merged layer was then used, with an associated abiotic layer, to "predict" the vegetation in areas where native vegetation no longer occurs. VIS ID 3815
