This dataset displays the position and extents of areas that have been identified as prescribed burn areas in the RFMP 2019-28. These prescribed burns may be developed and undertaken anywhere within the PCS and TCCS estate within the ACT and are subject to consideration and approval by a range of stakeholders as appropriate, and separate to the RFMP process; they are informed by ecological monitoring and research. This allows for flexibility in planning and developing these particular treatments as circumstances dictate in the context of an adaptive management approach. Additionally these burn locations are displayed as ‘maximum burn areas’.

Due to the level of impact across the landscape during the 2019-20 fire season, the Regional Fire Management Plan (RFMP) 2019-28 was revised. With three years remaining before the scheduled five year review the RFMP was amended to reflect the changes in the environment. We are currently monitoring ecological recovery and fuel-load response. Data collected during these processes will be used to support a comprehensive review of proposed treatments. This review will be undertaken prior to the 2024-28 period. Bushfire management in the ACT Bushfires are an inevitable part of living in the ACT. Canberra is described as the bush capital for good reason, with forest and grassland woven through its urban areas. Along with the rural areas and the mountainous and forested landscape to the west and south, living in the ACT means we live in or near an environment where bushfire is a natural occurrence.

The SBMP requires regional fire management plans (RFMPs) to provide a link between the strategy of this plan and the more detailed bushfire operational plans (BOPs). RFMPs will be updated to cover the entire ACT to reflect boundaries based on bushfire risk and geography. RFMPs detail the five-year program (2014–19) of work for fuel reduction, access and infrastructure in the ACT. RFMPs for 2019–24 will be prepared during the life of the SBMP. The ACT Emergency Services Commissioner (the Commissioner) is responsible for approval of RFMPs. They will be reviewed as required to reflect significant changes. These may include unplanned bushfires, which may provide strategic advantages or changes to the location or extent of assets – for example, the development of new estates. LANDFIRE 2022 Fuel Vegetation Cover (FVC) CONUS

LANDFIRE (LF) 2022 Fuel Vegetation Cover (FVC) represents the LF Existing Vegetation Cover (EVC) product, modified to represent pre-disturbance EVC in areas where disturbances have occurred over the past 10 years. EVC is mapped as continuous estimates of canopy cover for tree, shrub, and herbaceous lifeforms with a potential range from 10% to 100%. Continuous EVC values are binned to align with fuel model assignments when creating FVC. FVC is an input for fuel transitions related to disturbance. Fuel products in LF 2022 were created with LF 2016 Remap vegetation in non-disturbed areas. To designate disturbed areas where FVC is modified, the aggregated Annual Disturbance products from 2013 to 2022 in the Fuel Disturbance (FDist) product are used. All existing disturbances between 2013-2022 are represented in the LF 2022 update, and the products are intended to be used in 2023 (the year of release). The "capable" year terminology used in LF 2020 and LF 2016 Remap is no longer specified, due to reduction in latency from when a disturbance occurs to the release date of fuel products accounting for that disturbance. However, users should still consider adjusting fuel layers for disturbances that occurred after the end of the 2022 fiscal year (after October 1st, 2022) when using the LF 2022 fuel products. Continuous EVC values are binned to align with fuel model assignments when creating FVC. FVC is an input for fuel transitions related to disturbance and fuel products in LF 2023 were created with LF 2016 Remap vegetation in non-disturbed areas. This dataset displays the position and extents of planned fire access track and trail construction and upgrades. These sites have been identified as requiring to be upgraded from their current standard to cater for larger fire vehicles. These works have been identified in the RFMP 2019-28. The symbology is determined by the 'Required_Works' field. The current values are 'Proposed Light Unit', 'Proposed Walking Track', 'Upgraded Rigid Float'. Proposed Light Unit - To allow the safe passage of light units (4x4 Landcruiser or similar carrying a water tank of 400 – 600 litres). Generally, these features will have a width of 3 metres of natural, grass, sealed or gravel surface, corners of sufficient radius to make 3-point turns by light units unnecessary. Proposed Walking Track - Allow the safe passage of fire fighters on foot. Generally, these features will be less than 1m in width, of natural, grass, sealed or gravel surface and with vegetation maintained to allow single-file walking. Upgraded Rigid Float - To allow the safe passage of a rigid body truck carrying a D4 or equivalent sized bulldozer or machinery. Generally, these features will have the same characteristics as tanker roads but will have smaller rollovers and no switchback corners.

Last updated: November 2019 This dataset represents the spatial extent of prescribed burns planned for ignition and associated mechanical and vegetation works on Public Land in Victoria and some CFA burns. This data is prepared annually for prescribed burns planned for the immediate three-year period. This dataset is now the joint fuel management plan and now includes the CFA burns as well as VicForest coupe burns.
