RV Investigator Radon Data - Selected Voyages (2014 onwards)
The Radon measurements are obtained from a sensor mounted on the Research Vessel RV Investigator of the Australian Marine National Facility (MNF) managed by CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A), and processed by ANSTO's Institute for Environmental Research. The dataset includes quality-controlled data collected from 2014 onwards. The RV Investigator voyages where data was collected and processed are listed below in this record. RV Investigator Voyage IN2014 E04.5 Underway UWY Data (Unprocessed)

This record describes Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator Event voyage IN2014_E04.5. This is the fourth and final trial voyage for the RV Investigator departing Hobart on the 29th November and returning to Hobart on the 30th November 2014. The overall voyage objectives include equipment testing and procedure development. Data types to be collected include UWY data (not near real-time), Atmospheric Radon and SST Radiometer. The UWY data from this trial voyage was assessed and will not be processed as the quality is too variable to make it feasible/useful. The unprocessed UWY data is part of the EOV archive and will not be released. Additional information regarding this dataset is contained in the cruise report.

The East Australian Current mooring data collection (2021–2022) contains data files and associated documentation from a mooring deployment at 27°S. The collection includes instrument setup and configuration information, build documentation, deployment and recovery log sheets, and scanned paper records covering the period from May 2021 to July 2022. The mooring was recovered during the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator voyage IN2022_V06, “Integrated Marine Observing System: monitoring of East Australian Current property transports at 27 degrees South”, conducted from 14 to 29 July 2022 (AEST), departing from and returning to Brisbane.
RV Investigator Voyage IN2018 V04 Underway UWY Data

This record describes the Underway (UWY) data collected from the Marine National Facility (MNF) RV Investigator Voyage IN2018_V04, titled: "Constraining external iron inputs and cycling in the southern extension of the East Australian Current." The voyage took place between September 11 and October 8, 2018 departing from Hobart (TAS) and arriving in Hobart. Standard Underway data is continuously recorded, consisting of: (1) Navigation data (NAV): Latitude, Longitude, Speed, Heading, Course Over Ground, Gyros, and Doppler Log (dual GPS instrument). (2) Thermosalinograph (TSG): Water Salinity, Flow-Rate, Temperature, Fluorescence, pCO2 and Optode/Oxygen. (3) Atmospheric (MET): Humidity, Wind Speed and Direction (vane and ultrasonic), Radiometer/Sea Surface Temprature, Pyranometer/Solar Radiation, Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR), Air Temperature, Air Pressure, Rain, Ozone and Trace Gases (port and starboard instruments). The quality-controlled RV Investigator underway meteorological and SST data are supplied to the IMOS AODN where they are publicly available at the "Ships of Opportunity" Thredds server (http://thredds.aodn.org.au/thredds/catalog/IMOS/SOOP/SOOP-ASF/VLMJ_Investigator/catalog.html) for research. From there, they are downloaded by NOAA for their In Situ Quality Monitoring web site (iQUAM2) and made available for satellite SST validation. The SBE 38 SST data are used within the Australian Bureau of Meteorology for real-time satellite SST validation and ingested into real-time SST analyses which are then used as the boundary condition for Numerical Weather Prediction models. The meteorological and SST data are uploaded onto the Global Telecommunications System (GTS) for global dissemination to Meteorological Agencies, and separately supplied to the SAMOS (http://samos.coaps.fsu.edu/html/) Project for air-sea flux research. This record describes echosounder data collected on the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2015_V01. This is the first research voyage for the RV Investigator departing Hobart on the 21 March and returning to Hobart on the 30 March, 2015. Data are stored in Simrad *.raw raw format at CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere. There are 28 files totaling 26.3 GB of raw data in this dataset. RV Investigator Voyage IN2018 V04 CTD Data

This record describes the Conductivity-Temperature-Depth (CTD) data collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2018_V04, titled: "Constraining external iron inputs and cycling in the southern extension of the East Australian Current." The voyage took place from Hobart (TAS) to Hobart between September 11 and October 8, 2018. Data for 25 deployments were acquired using the Sea-Bird SBE911 CTD 24, fitted with 36 twelve litre bottles on the rosette sampler. Sea-Bird-supplied calibration factors were used to compute the pressures and preliminary conductivity values. CSIRO -supplied calibrations were applied to the temperature data. The data were subjected to automated QC to remove spikes and out-of-range values. The final conductivity calibration was based on a single deployment grouping. The final calibration from the primary sensor had a standard deviation (SD) of 0.0012361 PSU, well within our target of ‘better than 0.002 PSU’. The standard product of 1 decibar binned averaged were produced using data from the primary sensors. The dissolved oxygen data calibration fit had a SD of 0.7997µM. The agreement between the CTD and bottle data was good. A Wetlabs CSTAR Transmissometer, Chelsea Aquatracka III Fluorometer, Wetlabs CDOM Fluorometer, and PAR sensor were also installed on the auxiliary A/D channels of the CTD. The collected data were subsequently processed and archived within the CSIRO Oceans and Atmosphere (O&A) Information and Data Centre (IDC) in Hobart. Radon data and time-lapse photos collected outside the Pinenut uranium mine, Arizona, 2015-16

Two Saphymo AlphaE radon (Rn) detectors, with a measurement range of 0.54 picoCuries per liter of air (pCi/L) to 270 nanoCuries per liter of air (nCi/L), were deployed from October 2015 thru May 2016 in publicly accessible areas adjacent to the Pinenut uranium mine located in northern Arizona. One monitor was installed in close proximity to the mine vent and a second monitor was installed in close proximity to the ore pile. In late December 2015, a third AlphaE Rn detector was deployed adjacent to the ore-pile monitor. Measurement frequency was 3 times per hour and a time-lapse camera was installed in close proximity to the ore pile to record relative size and activity of the ore pile during mining and early reclamation. Because of size limitations, the photos from the time-lapse camera are not included in the data release. Instead, information from each photograph was summarized in a separate data file included in the data release. A meteorological station was installed at the site and recorded wind speed, wind direction, and precipitation during the study period. Three Saphymo AlphaE Rn detectors were evaluated against a laboratory grade RAD7 spectral alpha counter in a controlled environment to verify field monitoring results. The RAD7 was factory calibrated to a NIST standard prior to testing. A NIST traceable Rn-222 activity sample of granite was used as the Rn source for all testing.
