RV Investigator Voyage IN2016 E02 EK60 Echosounder
This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2016_E02, MNF Equipment Sea Trials, which departed Sydney on the 16th December 2016 and returned to Hobart on the 20th December 2016. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a maximum range of 1500m, between Sydney and Hobart. All frequencies were logged continuously for the extent of the voyage. Data are stored in .raw, .bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 124 files totalling 14.7 GB of raw data in this dataset. This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2018_E02, titled 'MNF Trials and Calibrations' which departed Hobart on the 3rd of September 2018 and returned to Hobart on the 9th of September 2018. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders [12], 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 4000 m, around south eastern Tasmania. EK60 calibration data was loaded into EK80 software for all settings to verify calibration values obtained from the EK60 real time calibration routine. Ek80 was also used to analyse the coverage of the four higher frequencies when just using the files for the 18kHz and the 38kHz. Data are stored in .raw, .bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 107 files totalling 1.1 GB of raw data in this dataset. No processing has been conducted on this data. This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2018_E01, Triaxus Sea Acceptance Testing & Calibrations Voyage, which departed Hobart on the 9th June 2018 and returned to Hobart on the 11th June 2018. The Simrad EK60 split beam echosounders 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 50 m, at the calibration site at White Rock in Storm Bay. Sphere calibrations were performed during this voyage using a 60 mm copper sphere (18, 38, 70 kHz) and 38.1 mm Tungsten Carbide sphere (120, 200, 33kHz). All frequencies were logged for the extent of the calibrations of the voyage. Data are stored in .raw, .bot and .idx format at CSIRO. There are 21 .raw files totalling 422 MB of raw data in this dataset. On-axis calibration processing using EchoView 8 has been conducted on this data. This record describes scientific split-beam echosounder data collected on the RV Investigator voyage IN2024_E01, 'Trials and Calibrations' which departed Hobart on the 28th October and returned to Hobart on the 6th November 2024. The Simrad EK80 split beam echosounders for 18, 38, 70 120, 200 and 333 kHz were used to acquire acoustic backscatter data to a range of 1500 m. All frequencies were not logged continuously for the extent of the voyage due to the priority of Sea Acceptance Tests (SAT) for the newly installed seafloor mapping systems. Data are stored in .raw, .bot and *.idx format at CSIRO. There are 1265 files totalling 143 GB of raw data in this dataset. NOTE: On the 5th November 2024 five transducers (18, 38, 70, 120, and 200 kHz) were calibrated using the EK80 WBTs in continuous wave (CW) mode. Due to a fault with the 333 kHz that frequency was not calibrated. No processing has been conducted on this data.
