TERN Litchfield Savanna SuperSite Five Photopoint Image Collection
High quality digital site reference images are captured for the core 1 hectare vegetation plot of the site on an annual basis to provide context for researchers to understand the general layout and vegetation of the study site, and as a visual reference to monitor any changes over time. Photopoints are taken annually using the five point photopoint method. The set of images for each year usually consists of twenty images: four images taken at each corner of the plot facing each of the four cardinal points, and four images taken from the centre of the plot facing each corner. The Litchfield Savanna SuperSite was established in 2013 in Litchfield National Park. Site selection was influenced by the history of long-term monitoring work undertaken in this area by the Darwin Centre for Bushfire Research (formerly Bushfires NT). The core 1ha plot is dominated by Eucalyptus miniata. The site is representative of the dominant ecosystem type across northern Australia: frequently burnt tropical savanna in high rainfall areas. High quality digital images are captured using a digital SLR camera at the plots (core 1 hectare vegetation plot) at the TERN Boyagin Wandoo Woodland SuperSite using the panoramic photopoint method. The panoramic photopoint method may be the most informative in open forests/woodlands and rangelands. Three photopoints are established configured in an equilateral triangle (2.5m sides) with the centre marked with a star dropper and the location recorded with DGPS. At each photopoint take photographic sequences in a 360° panorama, with up to 40 photographs with a minimum 50% overlap between consecutive photographs. The Boyagin Wandoo Woodland SuperSiteis in the Boyagin Nature Reserve, approximately 12 km west of Pingelly, Western Australia. This location is in the Avon Wheatbelt (AW2-rejuvenated drainage subregion) and has semi-arid (dry) warm Mediterranean climate. The Noongar people are the traditional owners at Boyagin. The panoramic photopoint method may be the most informative in open forests/woodlands and rangelands. TERN’s Gingin Banksia Woodland SuperSite is on the Swan Coastal Plain, approximately 10 km southwest of Gingin and 80km north of Perth, Western Australia. The site sits in a natural woodland of high species diversity (overstorey dominated by Banksia spp) that overlays the Gnangara groundwater mound, Perth’s most important groundwater resource. The site is 2 km from the University of Western Australia International Gravity Wave Observatory. The traditional owners at Gingin are the Yued group of the Noongar People. TERN AusPlots Forest Monitoring Network - Large Tree Survey - 2012-2015

The dataset comprises data from the first survey of ~24,000 large trees (>10 cm diameter at breast height; DBH) within 48 1 ha forest monitoring plots established across Australia between 2011 and 2015. Data includes: [1] Site identifiers (ID and Site Name); [2] Plot Establishment Dates; [3] Tree identifiers and descriptors (ID, Species, Status, Growth Stage, Crown Class); [4] Tree measurements (Diameter, Point of Measurement, Height, Location, above-ground biomass); [5] Comments and ancillary information; and [6] List of Metagenomic Sample Identifiers.

Comprehensive Reserve Assessment Lower North East Aerial Photo Interpretation Mapping Project.; ; Map of broad floristic types for the Lower North East NSW CRA region. Mapping followed conventional API techniques to record broad floristic groups and eucalypt subformations on clear plastic overlays at a scale of 1:25 000. The information exists as an alphanumeric code string, reflecting the floristic composition of the canopy. Overlays were scanned and converted into a rectified, attributed, topographically correct digital dataset. Photo information was compiled into 1:100 000 tiles for the project area but was later combined into a merged Upper North East NSW dataset.; ; Areas where vegetation mapping already existed at an adequate scale and classification, were included within this broad dataset. This data set includes in situ vegetation data collected during the Cloud and Land Surface Interaction Campaign 2007 (CLASIC07) campaign. Sampling was designed to coincide with satellite overpasses, such as Landsat's Thematic Mapper (TM) 5 and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor on NASA's Terra satellite (MODIS/Terra), which can be then used to estimate vegetation water content on the regional scale.
