This layer contains polygons showing tree cover change as defined by woody vegetation greater than 2 metres in height and with a crown cover (foliar density) greater than 10 percent. Tree cover is mapped down to a minimum area of one hectare. Attributes outlining the causes of tree cover change are assigned for areas greater than 1 hectare. This layer was derived from LANDSAT TM digital data.

This layer identifies Forest Cover Changes in Victoria from 1972 to 1987. Forest Cover is defined as woody vegetation greater than 2 metres in height and with crown cover (foliar density) greater than 10%. The smallest unit of forest mapped was fifteen (15) hectares.

A 6-in resolution tree canopy change (2010 - 2017) dataset derived from the 2017 Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) data capture. This dataset represents a "top-down" mapping perspective and all tree polygons are classed as: (1) No Change, (2) Gain, (3) Loss. No change indicates that this portion of the canopy has undergone no modifications during the time period. Gain indicates that new tree canopy has appeared during the time period. Loss indicates that this portion of the tree canopy was removed during the time period. This dataset contains the percentage point change in Melbourne¿s urban vegetation cover between 2014 and 2018, represented by polygons. Each polygon is based on 2016 ABS Mesh Blocks. This dataset is a modified version of TREE100 which has been intersected with the 25 thou mapsheet index to break up the larger polygons.
