Fire management zones help guide how wildfires are prioritized and managed and show where wildfires may be used to achieve ecological objectives. Zones are based on relatively constant factors, such as the level of human use or development and the presence of reliable fuel breaks. Fire Ignition Locations

This is point GIS coverage consisting of either fire ignition locations or centroids of fire polygons where the exact location of fire ignition were unknown for fires within the Yukon, spanning a period from 1946 to present. Although the temporal scale of the coverage goes back to late 1940's, Yukon-wide fire detection capability was not fully developed until the 1960's. In addition to this, access to regular aerial mapping was not readily available until that same time period. As a result many fires in the 40's and 50's were simply not recorded or poorly mapped, particularly in the north. For that reason, care must be taken when drawing conclusions from these data as it relates to the early years. Starting 2020 on the data was automatically updated using iFMS. Historical Fire Management Zone

This dataset shows the boundaries of the province's six fire management zones that existed prior to 2014 in which most forest fires received the same type of response. These management zones were based on: * common forest and forest fire management objectives * land use * density of values at risk * fire load * forest ecology The 2014 Wildland Fire Management Strategy moved from a zone-based approach to one where each wildland fire is assessed and receives an appropriate response according to the circumstances and condition of the fire.

This is a landscape level GIS coverage of large fires within the Yukon, spanning a period from 1946 to present. Original polygon size was limited to 200 hectares, when the first edition of this dataset was completed in 1997. Smaller fires are now being included, especially near communities. It is important to note that in most instances, fire perimeters only were mapped. This means that unburned areas within the perimeter are not accounted for, either in an ecological context or in annual area burned summaries. More recent fires mapped, with the aid of satellite technology may include large unburned patches.Although the temporal scale of the coverage goes back to late 1940's, Yukon-wide fire detection capability was not fully developed until the 1960's. NPS Allegheny Fire Management Zone Centroids

Reference feature layer indicating the location of National Park Units located in the Allegheny Fire Management Zone. Used in the 2022 Veterans Fire Corps Storymap. NERI Fire Staff provide fire related assistance to all parks within the Allegheny FMZ regardless of wildfire of fuels treatment occurrence.
Restricted Fire Zone

## Get data on areas where outdoor fires are not permitted. This dataset shows areas where outdoor fires are restricted in accordance with the [Forest Fires Prevention Act](https://www.ontario.ca/laws/statute/90f24). There are two reasons why a restricted fire zone is in effect: * outdoor conditions are extremely dry * the number of fires occurring has stretched firefighting resources to capacity A restricted fire zone is a temporary measure for extreme situations and is lifted as soon as conditions permit. The [Forest Fire Info Map](https://www.lioapplications.lrc.gov.on.ca/ForestFireInformationMap/index.html?viewer=FFIM.FFIM) shows active fires, current fire danger and restricted fire zones in place due to high fire danger.

In the SBMP, Fire Management Zones are identified as a subset of BPAs where measurable fuel management treatments are applied. The location and alignment of these zones reflect the risk of bushfires starting and spreading, and impacting on life, property and other assets. The zones established include Asset Protection Zones, Strategic Firefighting Advantage Zones, Land Management Zones and Rural Land Management Zones. The widths and locations of the Zones shown on this map are indicative and the actual widths and location will be determined in consideration of the ACT Fire Management Standards and operational requirements, through the development of Regional Fire Management Plans and Bushfire Operational Plans (including Farm Firewise). Chapter 11 of the SBMP details considerations used in determining the location and extent of Asset Protection Zones adjacent to new and established urban areas. Fire Management Zoning maps will be reviewed as required to reflect significant changes, which may include unplanned bushfires or changes to the location or extent of assets.
