Terrestrial Ecosystem Information Scanned Map Boundary
STE_SCANNED_MAP_BOUNDARY_SP includes an index of the mapsheet grid location of Soils, Terrain, Ecosystems and related scanned maps (including Agriculture Capability and Climate Capability maps). These maps are intended for on-screen viewing or printing. The majority of the maps have been geo-referenced. Mapping may not cover the whole map grid area. Some maps are interim or draft and may have been superseded. Some files are of related legends and map project text. Associated scanned map boundary attributes describe the project map (project level metadata) and provide a link for downloading the map, plus links to related reports, geo-referenced maps, and GIS digital data available from other sources. ATTENTION - The IMAGE_URL link is only useable by BC government staff. Public users can download the scanned maps by using the ECOCAT_URL link. There is no charge for the scanned map files. Please note that some maps and more recent mapping may also be available in digital GIS format. See - Ecosystem and Terrain Mapping Data Inventory.
Soil and Land Information
Statewide soil and land information can be discovered and viewed through eSPADE or SEED. Datasets include soil profiles, soil landscapes, soil and land resources, acid sulfate soil risk mapping, hydrogeological landscapes, land systems and land use. There are also various statewide coverages of specific soil and land characteristics, such as soil type, land and soil capability, soil fertility, soil regolith, soil hydrology and modelled soil properties. Both eSPADE and SEED enable soil and land data to be viewed on a map. SEED focuses more on the holistic approach by enabling you to add other environmental layers such as mining boundaries, vegetation or water monitoring points. SEED also provides access to metadata and data quality statements for layers. eSPADE provides greater functions and allows you to drill down into soil points or maps to access detailed information such as reports and images. You can navigate to a specific location, then search and select multiple objects and access detailed information about them. You can also export spatial information for use in other applications such as Google Earth™ and GIS software. eSPADE is a free Internet information system and works on desktop computers, laptops and mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets and uses a Google maps-based platform familiar to most users. It has over 42,000 soil profile descriptions and approximately 4,000 soil landscape descriptions. This includes the maps and descriptions from the Soil Landscape Mapping program. eSPADE also includes the base maps underpinning Biophysical Strategic Agricultural Land (BSAL).
Department of Finance, Services and Innovation - NSW Foundation Spatial Data Framework - Land Cover - Soil Landscape
Soil Landscapes comprise of the Soil Landscape Series mapping based on standard 1:100,000 and 1:250,000 topographic sheets and Soil and Land Resource Series mapping using catchment boundaries or other areas of state significance. Mapping and accompanying reports provide an inventory of soil and landscape properties of their area and identify major soil and landscape qualities and constraints. The ‘Soil Landscape’ concept integrates soil and topographic features into single units with relatively uniform land management requirements. Soils are described in terms of Australian Soil Classification, Great Soil Group and Northcote classification systems. Key soil materials are also identified for the Soil Landscape Series.
