At the end of each fiscal year, the Receiver general of Canada publishes financial information in the Public Accounts. This dataset, based on the tables in Sections 4 and 9 of Volume I, presents (in thousands of dollars) a summary of the contingent liabilities of the consolidated Crown corporations and other entities corporations and enterprise Crown corporations and other government business enterprises. A contingent liability is defined as a potential liability which may become an actual liability when one or more future events occur or fail to occur. At the end of each fiscal year, government-wide financial information is published in the Public Accounts. This dataset, based on the Volume 1, Section 11, of the Public Accounts, provides details of contractual obligations (in millions of dollars) that involve: transfer payment agreements, capital assets, purchases and operating leases. It discloses individual contractual obligations by category and by entity. The nature of government activities results in large multi-year contracts and agreements, including international treaties, protocols and agreements of various size and importance. Any financial obligations resulting from these are recorded as a liability when the terms of these contracts or agreements for the acquisition of goods and services or the provision of transfer payments are met. This dataset is from the Public Accounts of Canada and is not the official record of information.
