Notices to Importers: Item 80 - Carbon Steel, and Item 81 - Specialty Steel
1.1 The purpose of this Notice is: To inform importers that the steel import monitoring programme has been extended to August 31, 2008. 1.2 This Notice extends previous notices to importers concerning the steel import monitoring programme, including the Notice to Importers of March 12, 2001. 1.3 The steel import monitoring program does not limit the quantity of carbon and speciality steel products that may be imported into Canada. 1.4 This Notice should be read with the Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) and the EIPA Regulations, as well as previous notices, in particular the Notice to Importers of March 12, 2001 which outlines the requirements and identifies covered commodities.

1.1 The purpose of this Notice is to inform importers of amendments to the steel import monitoring program. A reporting and record keeping requirement has been added as a term and condition to the General Import Permits (GIPs) No. 80 and 81 for importing certain steel goods that are listed in items 80 and 81 of the Import Control List (ICL).

1.1 The purpose of this Notice is to inform importers of the procedures governing the administration of safeguards, in the form of tariff rate quotas (TRQ), for certain steel goods that are listed in item 82 on the Import Control List (ICL). 1.2 These goods are included on the ICL to implement the Order Amending the Order Imposing a Surtax on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods (Surtax Order). The Surtax Order establishes safeguards in the form of TRQs for steel goods matching the product descriptions specified in column 2 of the Schedule to the Surtax Order, above which a surtax will apply. The TRQs and surtax rates vary annually. Details regarding the TRQs and surtax rates applicable in each given period can be found in Customs Notice 19-08 – Final Safeguard Measures Imposed on the Importation of Certain Steel Goods from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
