Land cover classification data for wetland complexes at Dixie Meadows, Nevada from January 2022 to November 2023

These data were compiled to provide satellite remote sensing observations of landcover in the vicinity of wetlands fed by geothermal springs in Dixie Meadows, Nevada, USA. Objectives of the study were to map landcover of water, vegetation, and soil between January 26, 2022 and November 27, 2023 using available imagery from the Sentinel-2 mission, thereby extending previously published data from October 5, 2015 to January 21, 2022 (Bransky et al., 2023). The US Geological Survey's Southwest Biological Science Center (SBSC) and Grand Canyon Monitoring and Research Center (GCMRC) processed 36 Sentinel-2 satellite images representing bottom of atmosphere surface reflectance and classified them within Google Earth Engine (GEE) using threshold values of the Green Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (gNDVI) and its inverse relationship to the Normalized Difference Water Index (NDWI). The classified image data represent the area covered by five distinct landcover types: open water; mixed shallow surface water, saturated soil, and vegetation; dense green vegetation; moist soil with sparse or small vegetation; dry soil with sparse upland vegetation. These data can be used to evaluate the areal extent of each of the landcover types classified in this study as well as changes in the areal extent of these landcover types between January 26, 2022 and November 27, 2023. Additionally, these data may be used as baseline conditions to evaluate future changes in the areal extent of landcover owing to land use changes or climatic fluctuations.
Terrain Inventory Mapping (TIM) Detailed Polygons with Short Attribute Table Spatial View

Terrain Inventory Mapping (TIM) contains polygons with key and amalgamated (concatenated) attributes derived from the RISC (Resource Inventory Standards Committee) standard attributes. TIM is multi-purpose and divides the landscape into units according to surficial material, surface expression and geomorphological process using the Terrain Classification System for British Columbia. Most of the inventory mapping was completed in the 1970s and 1980s on 1 to 50,000 scale base maps using air photo interpretation with selective field checking, and manual transfer and drafting of paper maps. These maps were later digitized and have been converted from IGDS or CAPAMP to ArcInfo to Geodatabase. This layer is derived from the STE_TEI_ATTRIBUTE_POLYS_SP layer by filtering on the PROJECT_TYPE attribute. Project types include: TIM and TIMSOI. STE_SCANNED_MAP_BOUNDARY_SP includes an index of the mapsheet grid location of Soils, Terrain, Ecosystems and related scanned maps (including Agriculture Capability and Climate Capability maps). These maps are intended for on-screen viewing or printing. The majority of the maps have been geo-referenced. Mapping may not cover the whole map grid area. Some maps are interim or draft and may have been superseded. Some files are of related legends and map project text. Associated scanned map boundary attributes describe the project map (project level metadata) and provide a link for downloading the map, plus links to related reports, geo-referenced maps, and GIS digital data available from other sources. ATTENTION - The IMAGE_URL link is only useable by BC government staff. Public users can download the scanned maps by using the ECOCAT_URL link. There is no charge for the scanned map files.
