The Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ) dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Public Land Use Zones in Alberta. A Public Land Use Zone is an area of land to which legislative controls are applied to achieve particular land management objectives identified in a guiding land and resource plan. They can be used to protect areas containing sensitive resources such as wildlife and their habitats, vegetation, soils and watersheds as well as to separate or manage conflicting recreational activities. These areas have been designated as Public Land Use Zones, under the authority of Section 178 and 208 of the Public Lands Administration Regulation (PLAR) under the Public Lands Act. Public Land Use Zones were formerly known as Forest Land Use Zones (FLUZ) which were designated under the former Forest Recreation Regulation under the Forests Act. The Public Lands Administration Regulation came into effect on September 12, 2011. At this time, Forest Land Use Zones under the Forest Recreation Regulation were incorporated into the Public Lands Act and Public Lands Administration Regulation. As a result, Forest Land Use Zone became Public Land Use Zone.

The LIST Public Land Classification dataset is the authoritative source for information on Tasmania's Crown Land Reserves. This layer includes all reserves proclaimed under the Nature Conservation Act 2002, the Forest Management Act 2013 and the Crown Lands Act 1976. Reserve categories are: Conservation Area, Game Reserve, Historic Site, National Park, Nature Recreation Area, Nature Reserve, Regional Reserve, State Reserve, Public Reserve, and Permanent Timber Production Zone Land. Note: The Forestry Act 1920 has been repealed and replaced with The Forest Management Act 2013. State Forest under the repealed Act is now called Permanent Timber Production Zone Land. Land dedicated as Forest Reserve under the repealed Act has ceased to be Forest Reserve. The majority of former Forest Reserves are now reserved under the Nature Conservation Act. This dataset has been derived from The LIST Cadastral Area and these reserves will overlap the Authority Land parcels forming part of the Cadastral Parcels dataset. Attributes include: Reserve Category, the Name of the reserve if an approved name has been assigned, the Plan reference and proclamation details of the reserve.

This dataset describes public land management for the State of Victoria, where Public Land is defined as land held by/vested in/or owned by DEECA and other government departments, public authorities, Commonwealth government and municipalities. Refer to VEAC Act 2001 for more details. Public land includes state forests, parks and reserved and unreserved Crown land, including estuarine, coastal and marine areas to the 3 nautical mile limit (5.5 km) from the high watermark. This layer is represented at a scale of 1:25 000 and describes the primary management, land manager and the VEAC recommendations. PLM25 is a derived layer, using VMPROP.PARCEL_CROWN_APPROVED as the base layer. It relies on tabular and spatial sources to get the land description. PORTAL, PRIMS are the tabular sources of information. PARKRES, VEACRECS25 and CL_TENURE are the spatial sources. Additional layers were also created to describe areas of state forests, plantations, water frontages and commonwealth land. PLM25 has replaced the old PLM100 datasets. The Parks and Protected Areas dataset contains Parks and Protected Area boundaries for sites administered by the Government of Alberta. National parks, because of their similar intent, are also included. GIS line work representing provincial park/protected area boundaries has been interpreted from written legal descriptions appended to Orders-in-Council granted Royal Assent by the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. In case of discrepancy between the GIS data and the written legal description, the written legal description shall take precedence. The Government of Canada is the authoritative source for GIS boundaries of National Parks. National Park boundaries are included herein for reference, only. GIS line work representing National Park boundaries has been interpreted from written legal descriptions within Schedule 1 of the Canada National Parks Act, and adapted to align with the Alberta Provincial Base Features/Foundational Data collection. Defining document is Canada National Parks Act, Statues of Canada 2000, Chapter 32, Assented to 20th October, 2000. In case of discrepancy between the GIS data and the written legal description, the written legal description shall take precedence. Please note that this dataset replaces the following datasets: Ecological Reserve, Heritage Rangeland, National Park, Natural Area, Provincial Park, Provincial Recreation Area, Wilderness Area, Wilderness Park, and Wildland Park.
