The Division of Drinking Water (DDW), in collaboration with the California Department of Education, has taken the initiative to begin testing for lead in drinking water at all public K-12 schools. In early 2017, DDW and Local Primacy Agencies issued amendments to the domestic water supply permits of approximately 1,200 community water systems so that schools that are served by a public water system could request assistance from their public water system to conduct water sampling for lead and receive technical assistance if an elevated lead sample is found. To further safeguard water quality in California’s K-12 public schools, California Assembly Bill 746 published on October 12, 2017, effective January 1, 2018, requires community water system to test lead levels, by July 1, 2019, in drinking water at all California public, K-12 school sites that were constructed before January 1, 2010. The following datasets related to regulated drinking water system facilities in California have been developed and are available for the purpose of the March 23, 2023, OEDP workshop. The main purpose of the workshop is to engage community members and researchers in understanding datasets maintained and shared by the California State Water Resources Control Board Drinking Water Program and explore possibilities for their use and enhancement. Input from this workshop could be used to inform recommendations OEDP makes to partnering organizations about how to collect, share, and structure their open datasets. Conversations could also support community organizations in using water datasets to inform programming, policy advocacy, or organizing.

,The California Water Boards’ Water Data Center is proud to present the CA Water Quality Status Report. This report is an annual data-driven snapshot of the Water Board's water quality and environmental data. This inaugural version of the report is based solely on the surface water datasets available via the [Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP)] (http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/swamp/) and in future years we hope to expand this to include the groundwater, drinking water and water resource datasets available in our state. Our goal is to use data to inform both data storytelling (as in this inaugural report) and water quality indicators, including watershed report cards.,The 2017 Water Quality Status Report is organized around seven major themes that our team thought both individually and collectively tell important stories about the overall health of our state’s surface waters. ,Public Water Systems (PWS) submit their annual reports with rate information using the Electronic Annual Report (EAR) submission process on the Drinking Water Information Clearinghouse (DRINC) portal, which is reviewed, and manually updated into the Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). This includes the water rates reported by PWS in the EAR for years 2014 and 2015.,
