Retailers that Sold Tobacco to Underage Youth and Young Adults
공공데이터포털
This dataset includes two data tables that contain the percentage of licensed tobacco retailers that sold tobacco to underage youth and young adults: (1) Tobacco Sold to Youth Under 18, and (2) Tobacco Sold to Young Adults Under 21. The California Youth Tobacco Survey (YTPS), conducted between 1997 and 2018, assessed the rate of illegal tobacco sales to youth under the age of 18. Due to California raising the minimum legal sales age for tobacco products from 18 to 21 years old, YTPS was replaced with the Synar Tobacco Purchase Survey (STPS) in 2019. STPS is an annual survey that assesses the rate of illegal tobacco sales to young adults under the age of 21 years of age. Both surveys were conducted in accordance with the California’s Stop Tobacco Access to Kids Enforcement Act (STAKE Act) and the federal Synar Amendment.
Adult Cigarette and Tobacco Use Prevalence
공공데이터포털
This dataset contains two data files: 1) Adult cigarette use prevalence and 2) Adult tobacco use prevalence in California. Tobacco use includes cigarettes, cigars, little cigars or cigarillos, pipe tobacco, smokeless tobacco (e.g. chew, snuff, snus), hookah, or electronic smoking devices (e.g. e-cigarettes, vape pens, pod mods). See the individual file description for more information on each data file. The California Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is an on-going telephone survey of randomly selected adults, which collects information on a wide variety of health-related behaviors, including current cigarette and tobacco usage. Data are collected monthly from a random sample of the California population aged 18 years and older. The BRFSS has been conducted since 1984 by the California Department of Public Health in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study
공공데이터포털
This data table looks at tobacco advertisements that are likely to draw a child’s attention (e.g. advertisements below three feet, advertisements near candy). The California Tobacco Retail Surveillance Study (CTRSS), formerly the California Tobacco Advertising Survey (CTAS), is the longest-running tobacco marketing surveillance system in any state in the United States. The study assessed the availability, placement, and promotions of tobacco products in the retail setting. The study’s sample excluded tobacco retailers that require either club membership (e.g. Costco, golf courses) or had minimum-age restrictions (e.g. bars). Unusual retailer categories that were unlikely to display or advertise tobacco products, such as donut shops, were also excluded
