Cloud amount/frequency, NITRATE and other data from WECOMA in the Coastal Waters of California from 1988-11-13 to 1989-05-14 (NCEI Accession 9100051)
The Conductivity, Temperature and Depth (CTD) data were collected from Coastal Waters of California as part of Northern California Shelf Mixed Layer Experiment (SMILE). Six months data was collected using Ship WECOMA over a period spanning from November 13, 1988 to May 14, 1989. Data from 863 casts was submitted on a diskette by Dr. Richard Limeburner, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), Woods Hole, MA. Data has been processed and is available in F022-CTD-Hi Resolution file format of NODC.

The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. The data was collected as part of Coastal Ocean Dynamics Experiment and submitted by Oregon State University. The bathythermograph XBT data is in C116 format of NODC while the CTD hi resolution data is in F022 format.

Conductivity-Temperature and Depth data was submitted by Dr. A. Huyer of Oregon State University. The data were collected from NE Pacific (limit-180) from February 5, 1981 to April 14, 1981 on the R/V WECOMA cruise off the coast of California as part of Coastal Ocean Dynamics Experiment. Format and instrument descriptions are included with the Data Description Format. The data were binary and S. Stillwaugh has requested an ASCII copy. This reference number has been deleted. The replacement data has been processed and is available in NODC F022 data storage format.

Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard Bathythermograph (XBT) (C116) and High-Resolution CTD/STD (F022) formats. The C116/C118 format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data record was comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT Data File, in which temperature values were recorded at uniform 5 m intervals, the XBT data files contained temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Prior to July 1994, XBT data were routinely processed to one of these standard types. XBT data are now processed and loaded directly in to the NODC Ocean Profile Data Base (OPDB). Historic data from these two data types were loaded into the OPDB. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. Raw Data from 7 CTD casts using "SEABIRD" was submitted via FTP by Dr. Frederick Prahl of Oregon State University, Corvallis OR. The study was funded by NSF Grant # OCE 9203292.
