Oceanographic data collected during the Deep Water Corals of the Davidson Seamount 2006 expedition aboard R/V WESTERN FLYER in the North Pacific from 2006-01-26 to 2006-02-04 (NCEI Accession 0052881)

Building off the successes of an Office of Ocean Exploration (OE) expedition to Davidson Seamount in 2002, this project will focus on deep-water corals. The week-long expedition in 2002 was the initial effort to characterize the biology and geology of the Davidson Seamount, 1,250 - 3,700 meters deep off Central California. Many results and products from this cruise are relevant to OE, including ocean science issues, education, outreach, and resource management. The focus of the proposed 2005 cruise would be to expand on the exploratory results of our last seamount expedition to investigate processes that generated coral distribution patterns. We will use a simple model derived from results of the last cruise to test our understanding of coral distribution, and use this model to guide exploration in other regions of the Seamount (still over 99.98% unexplored.) Specific regions of the seamount will be targeted based on a topographic index, substratum type, and coral species depth records. Complementary studies of the biodiversity and population dynamics of seamount fauna will include collections of corals for taxonomic studies, and age and growth studies of corals using innovative radiometric techniques. Addressing the public interest in seamounts, corals, and exploration, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will record imagery from Davidson Seamount to feature in an upcoming television series, co-produced with the Discovery Channel, for broadcast in the United States and internationally. The Sanctuary West Coast Visitor Center and Monterey Bay Aquarium have plans to feature seamounts and corals in future exhibits, and high-definition video imagery, as well as research findings will be pivotal in the exhibit development.

CTD data of the Hawaii Undersea Research Program from the 296 Dives of the Submersible Pisces V within all Hawaiian Islands and Seamounts during 1990-1999 (NCEI Accession 0000807)
공공데이터포털
The Hawaii Undersea Research Laboratory (HURL) was established by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the University of Hawaii. Its mission is to study deep water marine processes in the Pacific Ocean. The primary means of surveying are through use of the Submersible Pisces V, with a depth penetration to just beyond 2 Km. The submersible is equipped with a CTD device. This dataset represents the CTD data for dives throughout all Hawaiian Islands and seamounts during 1990-1999. The data have not received calibration other than what was provided by the SeaBird Electronics CTD agreement. Also, the data have not been rigorously quality controlled. Use the data with discretion. Please inform the HURL data management team if questionable signals are encountered. HURL and NOAA are not responsible for misuse of the data.

Seafloor photographs and location data, West Hawaii, 2010-2011
공공데이터포털
Seafloor photographs were collected by SCUBA divers along pre-determined transects using an underwater digital camera following benthic survey protocols developed by the National Park Service (NPS) at Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park (Marrack and others, 2014; Weijerman and others, 2014) and modeled after the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and NPS coral reef survey protocols (Rogers and others, 2001; Brown and others, 2011). This dataset includes seafloor photographs in jpg format, the locations of which are described in the accompanying comma-separated files.

공공데이터포털
This data set contains oceanographic data (CTD logs, GIS data), biological tracking logs, and color underwater screen-grab images obtained from fixed system video cameras. The objective was to collect samples of corals and invertebrates, and to examine distributions and coral-invertebrate associations. Underwater images are in .jpg, .bmp, and .tif formats.
Oceanographic data collected during the Davidson Seamount 2002 expedition on the RV Western Flyer, in the North Pacific Ocean, southwest of Monterey, California from May 17, 2002 - May 24, 2002 (NCEI Accession 0072306)

This spring, scientists explored the first "undersea island" to be called a seamount. Davidson seamount, located 120 km Southwest of Monterey, California, is one of the largest known seamounts in U.S. waters. Although these geological features have been known about for quite some time, only recent technological advances allow for comprehensive studies. The exploration team was led by scientists from the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Collaborators included the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI), the Moss Landing Marine Laboratories, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
