Physical, chemical, and other data were collected using meteorological sensors, Secchi disk, and bottle casts in the Pacific Ocean. Data were collected from the THOMAS G. THOMPSON, KANA KEOKI, and WECOMA from June 18, 1976 to June 14, 1977. Data were submitted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration / North Pacific Experiment (IDOE/NORPAX) project.

Temperature, pressure, salinity, wind direction, and tide height data were collected using tide gauge in the Pacific Ocean. Data were collected from January 1, 1977 to January 1, 1978. Data were submitted by University of Hawaii in Manoa as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration / North Pacific Experiment (IDOE/NORPAX) project.

Physical and chemical data were collected using bottle casts in the North Atlantic Ocean and North Pacific Ocean from NOAA Ship MALCOLM BALDRIGE and other platforms from 15 June 1981 to 25 April 1994. Data were collected and submitted by Dr. Richard A. Feely of Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL).

This dataset contains chemical and physical profile data containing measurements of depth, salinity and temperature collected between May 1986 and April 1989. Data were submitted on a diskette containing 12 files by Dr. Richard Feely of Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory, Seattle, WA. Files were received by NODC via Ocean Climate Laboratory. Temperature and salinity profiles were collected from CTD casts in the NW Atlantic Ocean (Hatteras to Nova Scotia) from NOAA Ship Albatross IV and NOAA Ship Delaware II. Data were collected from 24 January 1998 to 19 November 1998 by NOAA/NMFS as part of their routine fisheries monitoring/assessment activities.

Biological data from the Deep Ocean Mining Environmental Study (DOMES) was submitted by R.J. Ozretich from the University of Washington. The data were collected in the North Pacific ocean on three cruises of the OCEANOGRAPHER from April 26, 1978 to March 22, 1979. The cruises can be identified by the following reference numbers: RP01OC78 - L01008; RP13OC78 - L01009; and RP09OC79 - L01010. The parameters reported are temperature, salinity, oxygen, apparent oxygen utilization (AOU), nutrients (PH, Si, NO3, NO2, NH4), ATP, chlorophyll and phaeopigment concentrations. Original DOMES hydro data submitted on tape has been converted into the current NODC data storage format.

Temperature and salinity profile data were collected using STD/CTD casts from MOANA WAVE in the Pacific Ocean from February 22, 1975 to May 27, 1975. Data were submitted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography as part of the El Niño Watch project, part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration / North Pacific Experiment (IDOE/NORPAX) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard High-Resolution STD/CTD Data (F022) format. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. Environmental data at the time of the cast (meteorological and sea surface conditions) may also be reported. The data record comprises values of temperature, salinity or conductivity, density (computed sigma-t), and possibly dissolved oxygen or transmissivity at specified depth or pressure levels. Data may be reported at either equally or unequally spaced depth or pressure intervals. A text record is available for comments.

Temperature and depth data were digitized from mechanical bathythermograph (MBT) analog output from the Pacific and Indian Ocean from July 1932 to July 15, 1970. Data were submitted by Scripps Institution of Oceanography as a part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration / North Pacific Experiment (IDOE/NORPAX) project.
