Hydraulic calibration results for the Lazy Day reach of the Big Piney River, near St. Robert, Missouri
This dataset includes the discharge values and calibration results for five discharge measurements collected at the Lazy Day (LD) reach on the Big Piney River near St. Robert, Missouri between November 19, 2020 and August 25, 2021. Discharge measurements were collected by USGS staff from the Columbia Environmental Research Center using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) and Real Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK GNSS) positioning. Calibration was performed to produce optimal values of downstream water-surface slope and Manning's roughness (Manning's n) for a one-dimensional hydraulic model of the LD reach.

This dataset includes 5 sets of velocity measurements and water-surface elevation measurements collected at the Lazy Day (LD) reach on the Big Piney River near St. Robert, Missouri between November 19, 2020 and August 25, 2021. Velocity data were collected by USGS staff from the Columbia Environmental Research Center at different locations in the study reach using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) and Real Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite Systems (RTK GNSS) positioning. Data were used to evaluate the calibration performance of a one-dimensional hydraulic model of the LD reach. Velocity data are provided as mean velocity at distances along a stream centerline that corresponds to the one-dimensional hydraulic modeling reach in HEC-RAS. Water-surface elevation data were collected by USGS staff from the Columbia Environmental Research Center using RTK GPS for the length of the study reach. Data were used to calibrate a one-dimensional hydraulic model of the LD reach. Water surface elevations are provided at distances along a stream centerline that corresponds to the one-dimensional hydraulic modeling reach in HEC-RAS.

One-dimensional HEC-RAS water quality simulation inputs and files for the Lazy Day reach of the Big Piney River, near St. Robert, Missouri

This dataset includes the one-dimensional HEC-RAS water quality model simulation input and output files for two simulation discharges at the Lazy Day (LD) reach on the Big Piney River near St. Robert, Missouri. Simulations were run for environmental DNA (eDNA) sample collection dates on July 07, 2020 and July 23, 2021. For each eDNA collection date, the transport of freshwater mussel eDNA from Cumberlandia monodonta was simulated by specifying eDNA as an arbitrary constituent in the HEC-RAS water quality module and assigning a first order rate of decay. To account for the variation of the eDNA field samples at the upstream boundary condition, as well as the laboratory derived decay constants, we ran three model simulations for each eDNA collection date: a) the mean eDNA concentration at the upstream boundary with the mean decay constant (k), b) the mean eDNA concentration at the upstream boundary plus 1SE with the mean k minus 1SE, and c) the mean eDNA concentration at the upstream boundary minus 1SE with the mean k plus 1SE. Field collected eDNA concentrations were used as an upstream boundary condition.

This data release contains river bed surface grain size measurements, water-surface elevation measurements, and digital elevation models (DEMs) for select reaches of the Big River, Missouri. These data were collected in support of research assessing the hydraulic conditions of freshwater mussel habitat in the Big River. The individual metadata associated with each data type describe the process steps, data inputs and sources, and the locations where the data were collected.
