1MF08 SeaCAT Data
We will conduct bottom trawl sampling in Bering Canyon to collect ripe adult Greenland halibut (Reinharditus hippoglossides), and we will conduct an ichthyoplankton survey in the same vicinity to collect ichthyoplankton. This work is needed to describe Greenland halibut spawning ecology, as well as the distribution of eggs and larvae over the slope and in Bering Canyon in winter. The work will also be used in the study of transport and early life history of this species. Data on physical characteristics of the water column will also be collected. We will also deploy 2 oceanographic instrumentation moorings, one in Bering Canyon and one on the EBS shelf in the vicinity to Unimak Island.

Examine the interactions among climate, weather, and the recruitment of fishes in the eastern Bering Sea. We will conduct ichthyoplankton and zooplankton surveys in the waters along the eastern Aleutian Island chain, the Alaska Peninsula, and the Pribilof Islands. This work is needed to describe larval fish assemblages and determine how physical and biological factors affect the transport and survival of fish larvae.

We will conduct an ichthyoplankton survey in the Bering Sea in the vicinity of Pribilof Canyon, Alaska. This work is needed to describe larval fish and zooplankton assemblages in the Bering Sea - basin, slope, outer shelf - in spring. In particular, this area is a potential conduit for transport larvae of slope-spawning fishes (Greenland halibut, arrowtooth flounder, rockfish) to the continental shelf. Data on physical characteristics of the water column will also be collected. Satellite tracked drifters may be released in Bering and/or the Pribilof Canyon vicinity to study depth-discrete current trajectories.

The late-summer FOCI cruise is designed to address biological and methodological questions regarding age-0 walleye pollock in the western Gulf of Alaska. The primary cruise objective is to map age-0 pollock density over an area of high environmental heterogeneity, and to relate variations in fish density with environmental variability to provide some insight regarding pollock habitat suitability.

공공데이터포털
To conduct an ichthyoplankton survey in the Bering Sea in the vicinity of Unimak Island, Alaska. This work is needed to describe larval fish assemblages in the Bering Sea (slope, outer shelf, and middle shelf) in spring. Zooplankton data and data on physical characteristics of the water column will also be collected. The primary objective of this cruise was to examine community structure and transport of fish larvae and plankton on the continental shelf, slope, and deep water areas of the southeastern Bering Sea and Unimak Pass. Hydrographic, nutrient, and microzooplankton samples were also collected.

The objectives of this cruise are to conduct an ichthyoplankton survey and process oriented studies in the region between Unimak Pass, the Shumagin Islands, and through Shelikof Strait to Kodiak Island, Alaska, so that we may estimate the abundance, transport, and factors influencing the survival of young walleye pollock larvae. We will also occupy stations on Line 8 to continue our 18-year time series of environmental and biological conditions in Shelikof Strait. In the event of high algal concentrations encountered at a survey station in the strait region and in the sea valley region, sampling will be conducted for a forage fish diet study.

The primary purpose of this cruise is: to observe the ice-edge ecosystem of the eastern Bering Sea. This includes sampling water properties (T, S, nutrients) and structure of the water across the zone of the ice-edge, to sampling physical properties of the ice and the epontic algae and metazoan communities, sampling water column algae and zooplankton communities that are utilizing the phytoplankton bloom associated with the presence of the ice, and observing the distribution of birds and mammals that utilize the ice floes in the spring.

The objectives of this cruise were to conduct an ichthyoplankton survey and process studies in the region between the Shumagin Islands and Shelikof Strait so that we could estimate the abundance, transport, and factors influencing the survival of young walleye pollock larvae. We also occupied six of the stations on Line 8 to continue our 26-year time series of environmental and biological conditions in Shelikof Strait. In addition to this sampling, stations selected from the main grid for the GOA-IERP research project were occupied to deploy the neuston gear to acquire larval fish of five target species (sablefish, walleye pollock, Pacific cod, arrowtooth flounder, and Pacific Ocean perch).
