Surface plastic debris collected from SSV Robert C. Seamans in Eastern Pacific Ocean from 2001-10-12 to 2012-12-20 (NCEI Accession 0211008)
Data contains floating plastic debris in the eastern North and South Pacific Oceans from more than 2500 plankton net tows conducted between 2001 and 2012. From these data, the researchers defined an accumulation zone (25 to 41°N, 130 to 180°W) in the North Pacific subtropical gyre that closely corresponds to centers of accumulation resulting from the convergence of ocean surface currents.

Plastic collected from SSV Corwith Cramer in North Atlantic Subtropical Gyre from 1986-10-15 to 2008-12-20 (NCEI Accession 0211007)
공공데이터포털
Data contains a time series of plastic content at the surface of the western North Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea from 1986 to 2008. The highest concentration of plastic debris was observed in subtropical latitudes and associated with the observed large-scale convergence in surface currents predicted by Ekman dynamics.
Marine Debris Research - Global Plastic Losses
공공데이터포털
The primary goal of this project is to use field sampling and mathematical modelling to document the distribution of plastic in the ocean, on the coast and in the nearshore environment generated by 6-8 major urban centers and surrounding areas that have been identified as having significant waste mismanagement or losses into the marine environment. However, since this projects inception we have expanded the number of countries surveyed. This research will allow for empirical validation of waste losses as projected by a recent global estimate of plastic losses into the world’s oceans.
Henderson Island beach debris data 2015
공공데이터포털
Data on the type, provenance, quantity (density), and rate of accumulation of beach-washed plastic debris were recorded on Henderson Island, a remote, uninhabited island in the South Pacific during 29 May – 15 August 2015. Henderson Island is rarely visited by humans, thus debris on the islands' beaches may act as a proxy for the adjacent South Pacific Ocean. The island was found to contain the highest density of debris anywhere in the world, up to 671.6 items/m2 (mean ± SD: 239.4 ± 347.3 items/m2 on the surface of the beaches. Approximately 68% of debris (up to 4,496.9 pieces/m2) was buried <10 cm in the beach sediment. Up to 26.8 new items/m are thought to accumulate daily.

Marine plastics found at Heard Island and Macquarie Island
공공데이터포털
This project monitored plastics at the four-bays area on Heard Island and at Sandell Bay on Macquarie Island. It characterised plastics by infra-red spectroscopy both from the beach collection and small pieces from fur-seal stomachs and cormorant boluses. The aim was to assess human impact on the ocean by measuring plastic abundance and type.
Microplastics concentration collected from R/V New Horizon and NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer in Northeast Pacific Ocean from 1972-04-25 to 2010-10-28 (NCEI Accession 0253448)
공공데이터포털
This dataset quantifies the distribution, and abundance of microplastics in the northeastern Pacific. Data was collected aboard R/V New Horizon and NOAA Ship Okeanos Explorer using neuston and manta nets and is in a spreadsheet format. This dataset includes the results from 235 tows, collected under different programs over 38 years. The ships traveled at about 18.5 km/hr, with tows spaced approximately 74-111 km apart. Mean concentration of microplastics for the dataset is 2.18 particles/m3.
Estimations of plastic debris at Maracas Beach, north coast of Trinidad collected from 2015-09-27 to 2016-02-22 (NCEI Accession 0280519)
공공데이터포털
This study estimated the amount of microplastics (i.e. plastics measuring less than 5 mm; reported in unit of pieces/m2), mesoplastics (i.e. plastics measuring 5-20 mm; reported in unit of counts/m2), macroplastics (i.e. plastics measuring 20-100 mm; reported in unit of counts/m2), and megaplastics (i.e. plastics measuring over 100 mm; reported in unit of counts/m2) in Maracas Beach, a micro-tidal recreational beach located on the north coast of Trinidad. These plastics were collected from 2015-09-27 to 2016-02-22 during multiple beach profile surveys. This dataset contains the results from all 18 beach surveys, in a spreadsheet format.
