EnviroAtlas - Agricultural phosphorus balance for 2012 by 12-digit HUC for the Conterminous United States
This EnviroAtlas national map displays the mean phosphorus (P) balance between inorganic fertilizer and confined manure inputs and P crop removal on croplands in the conterminous United States (excluding Hawaii and Alaska) for the year 2012 by 12-digit HUC. These data are based on International Plant Nutrition Institute compilations of county-level fertilizer sales data, confined manure production, and major crop harvest and P content of these crops, as well as the cropland area from the USGS's U.S. conterminous wall-to-wall anthropogenic land use trends (NWALT) 2012 land cover data. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. EnviroAtlas - 2002 Edge-of-Field Simulated Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Water Quantity Loss by 12-digit HUC for the Conterminous United States

This EnviroAtlas dataset contains annual (2002) simulated estimations of edge-of-field agricultural nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) lost in surface runoff, subsurface flow (tile and non-tile) and percolate, N and P attached to eroding soil (sediment loss) and associated surface, subsurface and vertical water flow and surface soil erosion. The dataset was generated using Weather Research Forecast (WRF) modeled weather, Community Multi-Scale Air Quality (CMAQ) model deposition and the Environmental Policy Integrated Climate (EPIC) model as implemented under the Fertilizer Emission Scenario Tool for CMAQ (FEST-C), all run for 12-km rectangular grids across the continental US. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. SPARROW cover crop model coefficients, summary statistics, inputs and simulated total phosphorus loads in streams of the Midwest United States, 2012 Base Year

The U.S. Geological Survey’s (USGS) SPAtially Referenced Regression On Watershed attributes (SPARROW) model was used to aid in the interpretation of monitoring data and simulate nutrient loads in streams across the Midwest Region of the United States. SPARROW is a hybrid empirical/process-based mass balance model that can be used to estimate the major sources and environmental factors that affect the long-term supply, transport, and fate of contaminants in streams. The spatially explicit model structure is defined by a river reach network coupled with contributing catchments. The model is calibrated by statistically relating watershed sources and transport-related properties to monitoring-based water-quality load estimates. This USGS data release includes input, output, control, model coefficient and summary statistic files associated with 2012 SPARROW simulations of total phosphorus load in streams of the Midwest and represents a variation of a similar model described in Robertson and Saad (2019, https://doi.org/10.3133/sir20195114). This version of the model utilizes cover crops as a land-to-water delivery term in place of the phosphorus loss rate term included in the original model. The impacts of cover crops on total phosphorus load in streams was evaluated by increasing and decreasing the percent of cover crop in catchments of the Midwest. The results of this evaluation are described in Roland and others (2022, https://doi.org/10.2489/jswc.2022.00162).
