Imagery data for the Vegetation Mapping Inventory Project of Wilson's Creek National Battlefield
This reference contains the imagery data used in the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Orthophotos, raw imagery, and scanned aerial photos are common files held here. The mapping component was produced by identifying land cover in a three-step process: (1) image objects were generated at 1 m resolution using e-Cognition applied to stacked leaf-on and leaf-off air photos, (2) image objects were coded with land cover classes on-screen, and (3) image objects were cut and corrected via heads-up digitizing at a display scale of 1:1,500 against a back-drop of air photos. Imagery was the most recent available from the National Agriculture Imagery Program, This included 2003 to 2007 true color and color infrared imagery. Imagery is from 1:12,000 scale digital color-infrared aerial photography (flown 31 May 2009) through heads-up-digitizing in ArcGIS (Version 9.3, © 2008 Environmental Systems Research Institute, Redlands, California). Airborne GPS data were provided by Aero-Metric, Inc, as were ground check point data. The project was referenced to the North American Datum of 1983/2007 (NAD83/07), Universal Transverse Mercator Zone 17 horizontally and to the North American Vertical Datum of 1988 vertically. The aerial photographs were taken on 31 May 2009 at a scale of 1:12,000. The calibration focal length for the photos was 152.823 mm. Contact prints of the CIR imagery were created for use in the field, and diapositives of the CIR set were created for photo-interpretation.

This reference contains the imagery data used in the completion of the baseline vegetation inventory project for the NPS park unit. Orthophotos, raw imagery, and scanned aerial photos are common files held here. Two sets of digital orthophoto mosaics, leaf-on (fall) and leaf-off (spring), were created for Petersburg National Battlefield. To achieve manageable file sizes, each set is made up of five files that, together, cover the entire geographic extent of the park. Kucera International acquired color infrared, stereo pair 1:6,000 scale aerial photography for the leaf-on mosaics on October 23, 2001, and for the leaf-off mosaics on February 28, 2002. The photography was delivered to the NPS, quality checked, accepted as provided, and sent to NCSU-CEO.
