This study estimated the concentration of buoyant microplastics (i.e. plastics measuring less than 5mm; reported in unit of pieces/km2) and mesoplastics (i.e. plastics measuring 5mm – 20cm; reported in unit of pieces/km2) in the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas collected from 2019-06-04 to 2019-06-14. This study estimated the concentration of floating microplastics (i.e. plastics measuring less than 5 mm; reported in unit of counts/km2), mesoplastics (i.e. plastics measuring 5-25 mm; reported in unit of counts/km2), and macroplastics (i.e. plastics measuring greater than 25 mm; reported in unit of counts/km2) around Kuroshio Current, western North Pacific collected from 2014-02-03 to 2014-03-01. These plastics in the surface water were collected using a neuston net (450 µm mesh size) by horizontally towing the net over the sea surface for 10 min at a ship speed of approximately three knots at each station. This dataset contains the results from all 132 surface water samples, in a spreadsheet format.

This study estimated the load of floating microplastics in the Western Mediterranean Sea. Data was collected aboard RV Angeles Alvarino and RV IV Lluerna using manta trawl net. This dataset contains the results from all 21 net tows, in a spreadsheet format. Tows were conducted for 15–20 min at an average cruising speed of 3 knots (1.5ms−1). The study found an average microplastic concentrations of 0.410 ± 0.361 pieces/m3.

This study estimated the concentration of microplastics (i.e. plastics measuring less than 5mm) in seawater (reported in unit of items/m3), and sediments (reported in unit of items/kg d.w.), in the Hangzhou Bay, China during 2020-09-11 to 2020-11-21. Microplastics in the seawater were collected using a plankton net while those in the sediment were collected using a sediment grab sampler. Data on hydrologic conditions in the study area were also collected. These include water depth (reported in unit of m), seawater temperature (reported in unit of oC), seawater dissolved oxygen (reported in unit of mg/L), seawater pH, and seawater salinity (reported in unit of ‰). This dataset contains the results from all 26 seawater, and 26 sediment samples, in a spreadsheet format.
