Field data collection was conducted for the U.S. Army Engineer District, Pacific Ocean, Honolulu (POH), during 21 March through 7 June 2007, in Kuhio Bay of Hilo, Hawaii (Big Island). Wave and current data were collected at three fixed locations using bottom-mounted RD Instruments Workhorse, 1.2 MHz, ADCPs (Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers). One of the instruments, located closest to the open ocean, included wave measurements. Of the other two units, one lost battery power on 7 April.

This dataset includes the Wave Energy Data Update for June 1995 - July 1995, from Coastal Data Information Program, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego. Field data collection was conducted for the U.S. Army Engineer District, Pacific Ocean, Honolulu (POH), during 23-29 August 2007, in the vicinity of the Natatorium, a World War I memorial in Kapiolani Park, Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii. Three bottom mounted instruments were deployed to measure waves and currents. A Nortek AWAC (1 MHz) acoustic current profiler was placed seaward of the reef, centered off the Natatorium, in about 5m depth. An RD Instruments ADCP (1.2 MHz) current profiler was mounted on the channel bottom near the entrance, in about 3m depth. The third unit was a Nortek Aquadopp current profiler (2 MHz) was placed in a small hole in the reef, about 35m seaward of the Natatorium pool outer wall in a nominal depth of 1.5m. The first two gauges recorded directional waves and current profiles, the Aquadopp only recorded current profiles. Four inexpensive current drogues (drifters) were designed and built at the CHL Field Research Facility (FRF) that used GPS tracking and radio telemetry for positioning.

This dataset includes current meter data holdings for the Hawaiian Islands, 1965-1969. The F015 format contains time series measurements of ocean currents. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent the Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record includes values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10 - 15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure and conductivity or salinity may also be reported.
