The instruments used to collect these data include CTD and bottle. These data were collected by E. Peter Jones and Kumiko Azetsu-Scott of Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) and James H. Swift of Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) as part of the CARINA/18SN19970924 dataset. The CARINA (CARbon dioxide IN the Atlantic Ocean) data synthesis project is an international collaborative effort of the EU IP CARBOOCEAN, and U.S. partners. It has produced a merged internally consistent dataset of open ocean subsurface measurements for biogeochemical investigations, in particular, studies involving the carbon system. The original focus area was the North Atlantic Ocean, but over time the geographic extent expanded and CARINA now includes data from the entire Atlantic, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.

These data include water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and total alkalinity. Starting in 2017, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) conducted a survey of marine fishes and their habitats on the Canadian Beaufort Shelf and slope in August and early September each year. Sampling was conducted from the F/V Frosti at 144 stations along nine multi-year transects; and 32 non-transect stations. Standardized sampling was conducted at pre-determined depth stations using a variety of sampling equipment including benthic fishing trawls; plankton nets; sediment cores; and CTD and water sample profiles. The ocean acidification program was implemented in DFO’s Central and Arctic Region (Freshwater Institute) in 2017, funded by the Aquatic Climate Change Adaption Services Program (ACCASP). This submission covers measurements conducted in the Canadian Beaufort Sea in 2019.
