This dataset is the SURATLANT (SURveillance ATLANTique) dataset and consists of individual data of temperature, salinity, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and its isotopic composition d13CDIC, total alkalinity (At), inorganic nutrients and water stable isotopes (d18O and dD) collected mostly from ships of opportunity between 1993 and 2017 along 76 transects between Iceland and Newfoundland in the North Atlantic Ocean. The data have been validated, qualified, and their accuracy and the overall characteristics of the dataset are presented in a paper (Reverdin et al., 2018, submitted to ESSD).

This dataset includes discrete sample and profile data collected during the RV Atlantis Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program (AZMP) cruise (EXPOCODE 33AT20220410) in the North Atlantic Ocean and Labrador Sea from 2022-04-10 to 2022-05-01. These data include water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TA), pH, and other parameters. Oceanographic sampling of physical, biological, and chemical parameters is performed annually along selected fixed sections as part of the AZMP. The sampling consists at a minimum of a vertical profile of the entire water column (temperature; salinity; dissolved oxygen); rosette bottle casts at selected depths (nutrients; DIC and TA; and other biological parameters) as well as plankton net tows. The AZMP was implemented in 1998 with the aim of increasing DFO's capacity to understand, describe, and forecast the state of the marine ecosystem and to quantify the changes in the ocean physical, chemical, and biological properties. Ocean acidification is an emerging priority for DFO under the Aquatic Climate Change Adaption Services Program (ACCASP) and is developing the knowledge-base necessary to support the development of adaptation tools and strategies and investing in science to better understand the specific consequences of a changing climate. Specifically, the effects of ocean acidification on ecosystems in the Northwest Atlantic and large aquatic basin risk assessments consider ocean acidification at the basin and sub-basin scale are being investigated.

St-Laurent Joint Ocean Ice Study (JOIS-13) cruise (EXPOCODE 18SN20130724) in the Arctic Ocean, Beaufort Sea, Davis Strait and Northwestern Passages from 2013-07-24 to 2013-09-02. The Joint Ocean Ice Study (JOIS) in 2013 is an important contribution from Fisheries and Oceans Canada to international Arctic climate research programs. Primarily, it involves the collaboration of Fisheries and Oceans Canada researchers with colleagues in the USA from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). The scientists from WHOI lead the Beaufort Gyre Exploration Project (BGEP) and the Beaufort Gyre Observing System (BGOS) which forms part of the Arctic Observing Network (AON).

This dataset includes discrete profile measurements of water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients and other measurements collected from profile and discrete sample observations during the R/V Discovery GO-SHIP sections A23, SR1b cruise DY113 (EXPOCODE 74EQ20200203) in the South Atlantic Ocean, Southern Ocean from 2020-02-03 to 2020-03-13. Cruise DY113 comprised occupations of two repeat hydrographic sections, SR1b across Drake Passage from Burdwood Bank to Elephant Island, and A23 from the northern Weddell Sea across the Scotia Sea to South Georgia. Ocean physical measurements are made on these two sections annually funded by NERC as National Capability, currently through the ORCHESTRA (Ocean Regulation of Climate by Heat and Carbon Sequestration and Transports) programme, in order to monitor and understand variability of Antarctic Circumpolar Current transports and Antarctic Bottom Water properties and volumes.
