Metal concentrations in sediment and amphibian tissues from wetlands sampled across the United States
The data presented include concentrations of 10 metals in sediments and composite larval amphibian tissues from 20 wetlands across the United States. Sixteen of the wetlands were sampled in 2019 and four were sampled in 2015-2016. Where possible both larval anurans (frogs and toads) and salamanders were collected from each wetland. The data also include information on metal concentrations in amphibian tissues after the gut contents were removed to understand metal bioaccumulation potential and the molar ratio of selenium to mercury in each tissue composite sample. This data release includes physical and chemical characteristics of field collected samples from streams and rivers within the Tri-State Mining District (TSMD) as well as toxicity endpoints from chronic water-only and sediment laboratory exposures including survival and growth of the mussel Lampsilis siliquoidea; survival, growth, and reproduction of the amphipod Hyalella azteca; metal concentrations, and various water quality parameters collected during the toxicity studies. Mining in the Tri-State Mining District took place over a large geographic area, with mining taking place in the three states of Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
Chloride in water, metals in sediment and amphibian tissues and amphibian capture information from wetlands in the Williston Basin of Montana and North Dakota, 2015-2017

The data presented includes chloride concentration and specific conductance in surface water collected from 33 wetlands in the Williston Basin of Montana and North Dakota, 2015-2017 as well as count data for three species of amphibians captured at each wetland. Data also includes concentrations of metals in bed sediment and larval amphibians collected from 32 and 12 wetlands, respectively in 2015-2016. Abundance of barred tiger salamanders (Ambystoma mavortium), boreal chorus frogs (Pseudacris maculata), northern leopard frogs (Lithobates pipiens) was estimated at 33 wetlands from 2015-2017. Surface water was collected in the summer from each wetland in 2015-2017 at the same time as the amphibian surveys and analyzed for chloride. Wetland area, wetland depth and estimate of the percent shallows was also collected as habitat covariates. Specific conductance data were collected at all wetlands in order to determine the locally derived Contamination Index (chloride concentration/specific conductance). Bed sediment was collected from several locations in 32 wetlands (3 in 2015 and 30 in 2016), homogenized and analyzed for a suite of 28 metals in 2015 and 2016. Larval amphibian tissues from the three species were also analyzed for the same suite of 28 metals in 2015 and 2016. Larval barred tiger salamanders, boreal chorus frogs and northern leopard frogs were collected in 12 wetlands (2 in 2015 and 10 in 2016) and analyzed for a suite of 26 metals. Northern leopard frogs and tiger salamander larvae were analyzed as individuals while boreal chorus frogs were composited due to their small size.

Boyle dam in Oregon to near the mouth on the northwestern coast of California. Included are 3 tributary monitoring sites, one each on the Scott, Salmon, and Trinity Rivers. This data release makes available major and minor trace element concentrations in surface water, bed sediment, and aquatic invertebrates collected in September 2018, and in bed sediment collected in September 2019.

This data release includes sampling location data, field-collected water chemistry data, cation and anion concentration data for water and tissues of submerged aquatic vegetation, aquatic insect larvae, adult aquatic insects and riparian spiders from 35 first- and second-order sub-alpine streams that ranged over several orders of magnitude in metal concentrations but were similar in elevation, geology, and stream morphology. Sampling was completed in late summer, after snowmelt runoff was complete and as the streams approached baseflow conditions.
