The second Gulf of Mexico and East Coast Carbon (GOMECC-2) Cruise on board NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown from Miami, took place in the Gulf of Mexico and then along the East US coast to Boston. The effort was in support of the coastal monitoring and research objectives of the NOAA Ocean Acidification Program (OAP). The cruise was designed to obtain a snapshot of key carbon, physical, and biogeochemical parameters as they relate to ocean acidification (OA) in the coastal realm. This was the second occupation, with the first occurring in 2007, and complemented mooring time series and other regional OA activities. The cruise included a series of 8 transects approximately orthogonal to the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic coasts and a comprehensive set of underway measurements along the entire transect.

The fourth Gulf of Mexico Ecosystems and Carbon Cycle (GOMECC-4) Cruise took place on board the NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown, from September 13–October 21, 2021. The cruise departed from Key West, FL into the Gulf of Mexico and then around the coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico in a counter-clockwise direction, ending in St. Petersburg, FL. The effort was in support of the coastal monitoring and research objectives of the NOAA Ocean Acidification Program (OAP). The cruise was designed to obtain a snapshot of key carbon, physical, biogeochemical and biological parameters as they relate to ocean acidification (OA) in the coastal realm. This was the fourth occupation of the Gulf of Mexico as part of OAP’s monitoring efforts in the region, with the previous ones occurring in 2007, 2012, and 2017. The cruise included a series of 15 transects approximately orthogonal to coast of the Gulf of Mexico and a 16th partial transect along the 27°N line, between Florida and the Bahamas, as well as a comprehensive set of underway measurements. This dataset includes the processed, 1db-binned CTD profile data collected in the 141 stations.

The CARINA (CARbon dioxide IN the Atlantic Ocean) data synthesis project is an international collaborative effort of the EU IP CARBOOCEAN, and U.S. partners. It has produced a merged internally consistent dataset of open ocean subsurface measurements for biogeochemical investigations, in particular, studies involving the carbon system. The original focus area was the North Atlantic Ocean, but over time the geographic extent expanded and CARINA now includes data from the entire Atlantic, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.

CTD profile data (128 casts) were collected in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas from the Fishing Vessel Ocean Starr (OS1701 Legs 1,2,3), August 1 to October 4, 2017). The cruise was part of the Arctic Integrated Ecosystem Survey (Arctic IES) funded as part of the North Pacific Research Board (NPRB) Arctic Integrated Ecosystem Research Program (Arctic IERP). The program and research on this expedition were sponsored by NPRB and the Bureau of Ocean and Energy Management (BOEM), with in-kind support by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). These data contribute to understanding how reductions in Arctic sea ice and associated changes in the physical environment influence the flow of energy through the ecosystems of the two Seas. The physical data are part of a wider range of data collected towards this effort. Notably, there was no sea ice present in the northern regions during the survey area as compared to surveys that occurred during 2012 and 2013 (see cruise report). CTD data and water samples were collected by NOAA, PMEL Ecosystems & Fisheries-Oceanography Coordinated Investigations (EcoFOCI). This data set contains 1-meter-averaged profile data. Profile data from CTD instruments were processed at NOAA/PMEL/EcoFOCI using standard techniques. CTD data contacts: Phyllis Stabeno, Calvin Mordy, Peggy Sullivan, Shaun Bell. This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, and oxygen data taken by CTD and water sampling from NOAA Ship Ronald H. Brown in the North Atlantic Ocean. Cruise RB-20-07 in 2020 had the objective to service a number of moored platforms for the MOVE project (Meridional Overturning Variability Experiment). To calibrate and validate the mooring data, CTD casts with salinity and oxygen water samples were collected; these data are reported here. The CTD sensor data have been quality-controlled and adjusted using the water sample data. The raw CTD data are available as separate files. Data are in NetCDF.
