This dataset provides median earnings in past 12 months for the civilian employed population 16 years and over by industry for State of Iowa, individual Iowa counties, Iowa places and census tracts within Iowa. Data is from the American Community Survey, Five Year Estimates, Table B24031. The following industries are included in the dataset: Agriculture forestry fishing and hunting, Mining quarrying and oil and gas extraction, Construction, Manufacturing, Wholesale trade, Retail trade, Transportation and warehousing, Utilities, Information, Finance and insurance, Real estate and rental and leasing, Professional scientific and technical services, Management of companies and enterprises, Administrative and support and waste management services, Educational services, Health care and social assistance, Arts entertainment and recreation, Accommodation and food services, Other services except public administration, and Public administration. A few roll up into industry groups.

The state fiscal year runs from July 1 to the following June 30 and is numbered for the calendar year in which it ends. The State of Iowa operates on a modified accrual basis which provides that encumbrances on June 30 must be paid within 60 days after year end.

Iowa Law requires Iowa Workforce Development to establish a tax table for each year. The unemployment insurance rate table trigger formula is primarily based on the UI trust fund balance, unemployment benefit payment history and covered wage growth. The formula is designed to enable the trust fund to keep pace with potential liabilities as covered unemployment and wages grow. This dataset contains the contribution rate table and the average tax rate for employers subject to the Iowa Unemployment Insurance system. There are eight rate tables each having 21 ranks. Table one has highest average tax rate. Table eight has the lowest average tax rate. The highest average tax rate (based on taxable wages) was 3.38% in 1984 (Table 1). The lowest average tax rate was 0.94% in 1998 (Table 8). [Time Period: 1980-2018]

The Tax Increment Finance Reporting Act of 2012 established new urban renewal and tax increment financing (TIF) reporting requirements for counties, cities, and rural improvement zones in Iowa with urban renewal areas in place during FY 2012. This dataset provides a financial summary of urban renewal reports submitted by counties, cities and rural improvement zones submitted annually beginning with Fiscal Year 2012. Tax increment financing is a financing mechanism for urban renewal. It involves dividing the property taxes paid from property within a designated area between the traditional taxing authorities (counties, cities, schools, etc.) and the taxing authority that created the TIF area.

This dataset contains taxable property values for classes of real property in Iowa by tax district. Taxable values are based on assessed valuations after application of the statutory assessment limitation (i.e. rollback), and is the value to which tax rates are applied (e.g. 2012 net taxable valuations are used for the FY 2014 property tax levies). Real property is mostly land, buildings, structures, and other improvements that are constructed on or in the land, attached to the land, or placed upon a foundation. Typical improvements include a building, house or mobile home, fences, and paving. Classes of real property include the following: Residential, Agricultural Land, Agricultural Buildings, Commercial, Industrial, Utilities and Railroads.
