Temperature profile data collected using current meter, mooring, and thermistor casts from the Northwest Atlantic Ocean in part of the IDOE/POLYMODE (International Decade of Ocean Exploration / combination of USSR POLYGON project and US MODE) from 1977-06-12 to 1979-09-01 (NCEI Accession 8200246)
공공데이터포털
Temperature were collected using current meter, mooring, thermistor casts from the Northwest Atlantic Ocean from June 12, 1977 to September 1, 1979. Data were submitted by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the IDOE/POLYMODE (International Decade of Ocean Exploration / combination of USSR POLYGON project). The file format is NODC F015 - Current Meter Data (Components). The F015 format is used for time series measurements of ocean currents. These data are obtained from current meter moorings and represent Eulerian method of current measurement, i.e., the meters are deployed at a fixed point and measure flow past a sensor. Position, bottom depth, sensor depth, and meter characteristics are reported for each station. The data record comprises values of east-west (u) and north-south (v) current vector components at specified date and time. Current direction is defined as the direction toward which the water is flowing with positive directions east and north and negative directions west and south. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering and are typically reported at 10-15 minute time intervals. Water temperature, pressure, and conductivity or salinity may also be reported. A text record is available for optional comments.
Temperature profile data from XBT casts from the WASHINGTON STANDARD and other platforms as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration (IDOE) from 1968-10-18 to 1972-10-18 (NCEI Accession 7300888)
공공데이터포털
Temperature profile data were collected from XBT casts from the WASHINGTON STANDARD and other platforms from 18 October 1968 to 18 October 1972. Data were collected by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) as part of the International Decade of Ocean Exploration (IDOE). Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data records are comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contain temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. Special instruments permit measurements to be obtained to 1830 m.

This data set is a processed version of data obtained during the First GARP (Global Atmospheric Research Program) Global Experiment (FGGE). The data were obtained by 359 individual drifting buoys from November 1978 to January 1981 mostly in the southern hemisphere oceans. This data set was processed by Dr. Steven L. Patterson from NODC. The buoys were supplied by different countries. Included in the documentation is a description of the data set and a manuscript titled "Surface Circulation and Kinetic Energy Distribution in the South by S.L. Patterson". This paper was published in the Journal of Physical Oceanography 15 (7).
