Water temperature, salinity, turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) dissipation rate, thermal dissipation rate, and other variables collected from the research vessel Thomas G. Thompson in the Equatorial Pacific Ocean at 140 deg W from 1984-11-16 to 1984-12-03 as part of the TROPIC HEAT Experiment (NCEI Accession 0286197)
Velocity and temperature microstructure, shear and stratification were observed at 35 stations between 3 degrees North and 2.5 degrees South at 140 degrees West from November 16 to December 3, 1984. The stations include a 4.5-day time series on the equator. The observations span the meridional extent of the Equatorial Undercurrent. The time series resolves a diurnal cycle in and below the varying surface mixed layer. After these many years, only station averages and hourly averages from the equatorial time series survive. Ancillary data, including surface forcing, and documentation are included in the data compilation. Data are in ASCII format.

Turbulent dissipation rates (viscous and thermal), water temperature, salinity, velocity, and others collected from the research vessel THOMAS G. THOMPSON in the central tropical Pacific from 1987-03-26 to 1987-04-20 (NCEI Accession 0287031)
공공데이터포털
This dataset contains water temperature, salinity, velocity, turbulence, shear, stratification, and other parameters at the large-scale and fine-scale observed in a second Tropic Heat cruise at 0° / 140° W and a few other off-equator locations in the central tropical Pacific in March/April 1987. The R/V Thomas G. Thompson deployed the free-fall microstructure profiler MSP in 92 “drops” that mostly reached 1000m depth. The observations reach from the diurnally varying surface mixed layer, the likewise diurnally varying stratified shear layer below, the Equatorial Undercurrent and the Equatorial Intermediate Current. Turbulent mixing is quantified in viscous and thermal dissipation rates. Thermistors, shear probes and an acoustic current meter can reveal vertical wavenumber spectra from centimeters to decameters. Data are in ASCII format.

Temperature and salinity data collected for the O.N.R. - Study of Mid-Pacific Transition Zone on cruise TT-027 of RV Thomas G. Thompson from 4/1/68 to 5/2/68. Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard High-Resolution CTD/STD (F022) format. The F022 format contains high-resolution data collected using CTD (conductivity-temperature-depth) and STD (salinity-temperature-depth) instruments. As they are lowered and raised in the oceans, these electronic devices provide nearly continuous profiles of temperature, salinity, and other parameters. Data values may be subject to averaging or filtering or obtained by interpolation and may be reported at depth intervals as fine as 1m. Cruise and instrument information, position, date, time and sampling interval are reported for each station. Environmental data at the time of the cast (meteorological and sea surface conditions) may also be reported. The data record comprises values of temperature, salinity or conductivity, density (computed sigma-t), and possibly dissolved oxygen or transmissivity at specified depth or pressure levels. Data may be reported at either equally or unequally spaced depth or pressure intervals. A text record is available for comments.
