R1: Aquatic Monitoring for Climate Change - Fish Assemblage and Habitat - Tabular and Relational Datasets

This reference contains relational and tabular datasets for Aquatic Monitoring for Climate Change - Fish Assemblage and Habitat survey (PRIMR IDs: FF01RKTN00-035, FF01RLPO00-089, FF01RMLH00-125, FF01RWLP00-108, FF01RWMF00-084). These datasets represent ongoing long-term aquatic health and climate change monitoring at Refuges, and incorporates all continuous measures from the pilot project. Service programs (Refuges, Fish and Aquatic Conservation, and Water Resources) are collaborating to implement a long-term aquatic monitoring program for evaluating effects of climate change at National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs) in the Columbia-Pacific Northwest Region (IR9). The goal is to evaluate evidence of climate change on physical and habitat variables, and potentissociations al associations with changes in fish assemblages in wadeable streams. The program relies on two site specific protocols (SSPs), one addressing habitat and fish surveys (this SSP) and another addressing temperature and stream flow. For habitat and fish, objectives are to: establish a survey reach within a stream at each of five NWRs across the range of ecoregions in IR9; describe habitat in each survey reach once every five years or less; describe fish assemblages in each survey reach once every five years or less; analyze for temporal changes in habitat and fish assemblages, and assess potential temporal associations between habitat and fish assemblages. Data collected at survey reach are based on a subset of protocols developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation Program (EMAP; Peck et al. 2006).

Interagency Ecological Program and US Fish and Wildlife Service: Enhanced Delta Smelt Monitoring Program Experimental Larval Survey Data 2018-2019

The United States Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) Experimental Larval Survey was designed and implemented by the Enhanced Delta Smelt Monitoring Program to assess alternative sampling methods for monitoring the larval life stages of the federally endangered Delta Smelt (Hypomesus transpacificus) within the San Francisco Estuary, California, USA. From 2018 to 2019, four different sampling methods (Beach Seine, Manta Trawl Net, 20-mm Surface Trawl Net, 20-mm Midwater Trawl Net) nested in time and space were used to estimate the occupancy rate, relative density, and size distribution of larval Delta Smelt across sampling methods and water depth strata within the San Francisco Estuary. Physical and Biological Monitoring Data Collected from Restored Wetland Units at Shiawassee National Refuge, Saginaw, MI, US (2020)

Data represent physical (water quality) and biological (fish, macroinvertebrate, and vegetation community) collections as indicators for Pool 1A and the Maankiki Marsh North and South units at the Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge in Saginaw, MI, USA. The Maankiki North and South units were recently reconnected to the Shiawassee River in 2018, whereas Pool 1A represents a historically reconnected wetland. All data were collected in 2020.

These data from Evaluation and Review of Ecology-Focused Stream Studies to Support Cooperative Monitoring, Fountain Creek Basin, Colorado were used to describe temporal trends in fish communities in the basin. Fish data were collected at U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) sites between 2003 and 2022. Datasets include fish frequency of occurrence, flathead chub catch per unit of effort, and a list of fish species collected.
