This dataset includes discrete profile measurements of dissolved inorganic carbon, total alkalinity, CTD temperature, CTD salinity, CTD oxygen, nutrients, and delta C13 made during the R/V Discovery cruise D379, ELL_2012 (EXPOCODE 74DI20120731) in the North Atlantic Ocean from 2012-07-31 to 2012-08-17. The Extended Ellett Line is a hydrographic section between Iceland and Scotland that is occupied annually by scientists from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) and the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), UK. The measurement programme began as a seasonally-occupied hydrographic section in the Rockall Trough in 1975, building on early surface observations made underway from ocean weather ships. In 1996 the section was extended to Iceland, sampling three basins: the Rockall Trough, the Hatton-Rockall Basin and the Iceland Basin. This report presents a summary of data from the Extended Ellett Line programme. The data are analysed to calculate time series of temperature and salinity of the upper ocean and Labrador Sea Water in the eastern subpolar gyre. The most recent Extended Ellett Line cruise (August 2012) is shown as temperature, salinity and density sections.

This dataset includes discrete sample and profile data collected during the RRS James Cook Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Atlantic Zone Monitoring Program (AZMP) cruise (EXPOCODE 740H20221022) in the North Atlantic Ocean and Labrador Sea from 2022-10-22 to 2022-11-08. These data include water temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, nutrients, dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC), total alkalinity (TA), pH, and other parameters. Oceanographic sampling of physical, biological, and chemical parameters is performed annually along selected fixed sections as part of the AZMP. The sampling consists at a minimum of a vertical profile of the entire water column (temperature; salinity; dissolved oxygen); rosette bottle casts at selected depths (nutrients; DIC and TA; and other biological parameters) as well as plankton net tows. The AZMP was implemented in 1998 with the aim of increasing DFO's capacity to understand, describe, and forecast the state of the marine ecosystem and to quantify the changes in the ocean physical, chemical, and biological properties. Ocean acidification is an emerging priority for DFO under the Aquatic Climate Change Adaption Services Program (ACCASP) and is developing the knowledge-base necessary to support the development of adaptation tools and strategies and investing in science to better understand the specific consequences of a changing climate. Specifically, the effects of ocean acidification on ecosystems in the Northwest Atlantic and large aquatic basin risk assessments consider ocean acidification at the basin and sub-basin scale are being investigated.

The original focus area was the North Atlantic Ocean, but over time the geographic extent expanded and CARINA now includes data from the entire Atlantic, the Arctic Ocean, and the Southern Ocean.
