This dataset contains water temperature profiles from XBT casts collected aboard the L'Astrolabe, SEATRADE ORANGE, HANSA FREYBURG, SEATRADE RED, and Investigator in the Indian Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, Southern Ocean, and Coral Sea from 31 January 2020 to 11 September 2020. These data were collected as part of the Ship of Opportunity Program High Density XBT Transects during cruises LA200, SO30, HF32, SR30, and in2020_v and submitted by Rebecca Cowley of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO).

This dataset contains water temperature profiles from XBT casts collected aboard the NORTHWEST SANDERLING, NORTHWEST SANDPIPER, OOCL HOUSTON, OOCL PANAMA, and SWAN RIVER BRIDGE in the Arafura Sea, Banda Sea, Ceram Sea, Flores Sea, Indian Ocean, Java Sea, Molukka Sea, Philippine Sea, Savu Sea, and Timor Sea from 2022-01-04 to 2022-12-26. These data were collected as part of the Ship of Opportunity High Density XBT Transects Program for transects IX01, IX22, PX02, and PX11 and submitted by Lisa Krummel of the Australian Bureau of Meteorology.

This dataset contains oceanographic water temperature profiles collected from XBTs aboard the platforms ANL Elaroo, Capitaine Quiros, HMB Endeavour, Josephine Maersk, L'Astrolabe, and Shengking in the Indian Ocean, South Pacific Ocean, Tasman Sea, and Coral Sea from 2018-02-01 to 2019-03-06. These data were collected by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) as part of the JCOMM Ship of Opportunity Programme and submitted by Rebecca Cowley of CSIRO as part of the Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP).

Temperature profile data were collected using bathythermograph (XBT) from the ATLANTIS 2 from the Atlantic Ocean from May 17, 1978 to June 03, 1978. Data were submitted by Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as a part of the IDOE/POLYMODE (International Decade of Ocean Exploration / combination of USSR POLYGON project and US MODE).

Data has been processed by NODC to the NODC standard Bathythermograph (XBT) (C116) format. The C116/C118 format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data record was comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. Unlike the MBT Data File, in which temperature values were recorded at uniform 5 m intervals, the XBT data files contained temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m. Prior to July 1994, XBT data were routinely processed to one of these standard types. XBT data are now processed and loaded directly in to the NODC Ocean Profile Data Base (OPDB). Historic data from these two data types were loaded into the OPDB.

Data were submitted by University of Rhode Island; Graduate School of Oceanography as part of the INTERNATIONAL DECADE OF OCEAN EXPLORATION / combination of USSR POLYGON project and US MODE (IDOE/POLYMODE) project. Data were processed by NODC to the NODC standard Universal Bathythermograph Output (UBT) format. The UBT format contains temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. These data were collected by Scripps Institute of Oceanography (SIO), as part of the JCOMM Ship of Opportunity Programme and SIO High Resolution XBT/XCTD Network (lines I21, P05, P13, P37, P40, S37) and submitted by Lisa Lehmann of SIO as part of the Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP).
