CRCP St. Croix Queen Conch Acoustic Tracking Project
Marine protected areas (MPAs) can be highly effective tools for conserving habitats, populations, and sustainable fisheries. The National Park Service (NPS) is hosting a collaboration of researchers assessing effectiveness of MPA boundaries, species movements, and identifying gaps in protection for a wide range of shark, turtle, and reef fish species. Building upon our previous work, we're tagging queen conch to examine time spent in protected areas, migrations to open fishing areas, spawning grounds, and nursery habitats.

Estuarine Soundscape Observatory Network in the Southeast (ESONS) Raw Audio Data
공공데이터포털
These are raw audio data from the Estuarine Soundscape Observatory Network in the Southeast (ESONS) funded by NOAA IOOS/SECOORA. Passive acoustic recorders (Loggerhead instruments, Sarasota, FL) in custom built instrument frames (Mooring Systems Inc., Cataumet, MA) were deployed in the May River following methodology found in Monczak et al. 2017 and Monczak et al. 2019. All frames and recorders were painted with antifouling paint and equipped with 7 m of galvanized chain attached to a line. Instrument frames with recorders were then deployed on the bottom of the river. The line was stretched along the bottom and attached to an auger on the shoreline. We scheduled recorders to collect sound data on a duty cycle of 2 min every 20 min or 2 min every hour. Recorders were serviced approximately every 3 months (Montie et al. 2015; Marian et al. 2021).
Vessel Detection Events Recorded at SanctSound Site PM02 01
공공데이터포털
This record represents the individual vessel events detected from raw passive acoustic data. Events are identified from the long-term spectral average (LTSAs) created for each site with a 5 s, 48 kHz resolution. The LTSA is analyzed in blocks where the calibrated power spectral density estimates are averaged in user-defined low, medium and high frequency bands. These data were recorded at SanctSound Site PM02_01 between October 01, 2019 and June 01, 2020.
Acoustics Research
공공데이터포털
Fisheries acoustics data are collected from more than 200 sea-days each year aboard the FRV DELAWARE II and FRV ALBATROSS IV (decommissioned) and the FSV Henry B. Bigelow during pelagic, bottom-trawl, and marine mammal surveys. Acoustic sampling operations include continuous measurements using hull-mounted transducers and multi-frequency scientific echosounders. Biological sampling with midwater and bottom trawls, and underwater video deployments is conducted to verify species-specific backscatter and characterize sea-floor habitat. In-situ and laboratory experiments aid in understanding species-specific acoustic measurements. We are continuously developing, testing, and evaluating advanced sampling technologies during laboratory and field experiments to improve abundance estimates and map spatial and temporal distributions of fish and invertebrates. Acoustic, optic, and biological data are audited and archived in the NEFSC relational data management system.
