Great Smoky Mountains National Park Elk Exclosure Vegetation Monitoring

This database contains all long-term vegetation monitoring data related to elk (Cervus elaphus) reintroduction and management in GRSM. Each vegetation plot consists of an exclosure plot and a paired control plot. Also included in the database are all data related to exclosure damage from tree fall or other disturbance and exclosure repairs. All work has been performed by GRSM Resource Management & Science staff.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park Vegetation Monitoring Plots – 2003 – 2009 (Jenkins Plots)

This database includes all data related to long-term vegetation monitoring performed by GRSM I&M staff from 2003-2009. Data collection methods follow Jenkins 2008 protocol, and are generally referred to as the GRSM Vegetation Monitoring plots. This program ended in 2009 and was replaced with the Vital Signs program, however, this database will still occasionally be updated as research partners revisit plots.

Bird Banding Records Associated with Great Smoky Mountains National Park from the USGS Bird Banding Lab

Bird banding data from various research projects conducted within Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including but not limited to studies GRSM-00013, -00014, -00112, -00128, -00163, -00164, -00434, -00570, -00721, -00793, -00857, -00984, -01101, -01804, and -01805. This data is periodically downloaded from the USGS Bird Banding Lab. Most birds were captured in mist nets and fitted with a single metal numeric band. Some individuals were also fitted with plastic colored bands to facilitate identification when seen free in the field. Additional data collected includes species, age, sex, molt, reproductive status, date, capture location, capture time, and/or ectoparasites present.
