This vector data set contains the cruise tracklines from acoustic surveys completed within and adjacent to the boundaries of Cape Cod National Seashore (CaCo) from Race Point to Long Point in Provincetown, Massachusetts, June 19 to August 7, 2015. Full coverage sidescan and partial coverage bathymetry data were collected using an Edgetech 6205 Phase-Measuring Sidescan Sonar. In total, 568 hectares were mapped at primarily 20 – 40 meter line spacing and 50 meter swath range to allow overlap of lines.

Still images taken in conjunction with biological and sediment grab samples in order to describe the benthic invertebrate community and sediment characteristics of the Pleasant Bay, Nauset Marsh, Wellfleet harbor and Herring Cove Coastal Systems. These data are a part of the Submerged Marine Habitat Mapping Studies project. One cast to the seafloor was conducted at each station to collect conductivity, temperature and depth (CTD) data after the boat had been anchored at the station, but before collecting the grab samples.

This data package includes 40 geospatial rasters (maps) depicting various metrics about eelgrass (Zostera marina) coverage at Izembek Lagoon, Alaska, during 2016 and 2020. Two maps were produced from two Sentinel-2 satellite images collected on July 1, 2016, and August 14, 2020. Spectral classes derived from each satellite image were annotated and mapped based on data collected in the field at plots within each spectral class.

These files contain ground-truth data collected in support of Submerged Marine Habitat Mapping at Cape Cod National Seashore. Files include data concerning CTD profiles, sampling locations, sediment grain size, invertebrate samples, indexes of still phots and videos, and field notes.

A towfish containing sidescan and video hardware was used to map eelgrass in two shallow northern New Brunswick estuaries. The sidescan and video data were useful in documenting suspected impacts of oyster aquaculture gear and eutrophication on eelgrass. With one boat and a crew of three, the mapping was accomplished at a rate of almost 10 km2 per day. That rate far exceeds what could be accomplished by a SCUBA based survey with the same crew. Moreover, the towfish survey applied with a complementary echosounder survey is potentially a more cost effective mapping method than satellite based remote sensing.
