This release includes data collected using stratified random surveys to inventory the birds breeding in lowlands (elevation below 100m) of the Alaska Peninsula, during summers 2004-2007. Data were collected at 792 survey points (10-minute point counts) on 52 5-km x 5-km plots. The data are in seven tables: 1) geographic coordinates of the bounding corners of each of the 52 survey plots, including environmental conditions at the time of the survey, 2) summary of all bird and mammal species encountered on each of the 52 plots before, during, and after the 10-min point counts, 3) geographic coordinates of each of the 792 bird count points and the vegetation cover at each point, 4) counts and behavioral observations of shorebirds and avian predators during 10-min point counts, 5) counts of all bird species not classified as shorebirds or predators that were encountered during 10-min point counts, 6) bird and mammal taxonomy references, and 7) inventory of the habitat photographs taken at each survey point.

Observation data and model covariate data from breeding bird inventory conducted during May-June 2004 and 2008 primarily in montane areas (>100 m above sea level) in Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve (Aniakchak NMP), Katmai National Park and Preserve (Katmai NPP), and Lake Clark National Park and Preserve (Lake Clark NPP) in southwestern Alaska. Observers conducted 1,021 point counts along 169 transects within 63 10-km × 10-km plots that were randomly selected and stratified by ecological subsection.

Child Item Two: "Geospatial Sampling Information for the Inventory of Montane-nesting Birds in the Aniakchak National Monument and Preserve, Alaska". This data package contains two tables with habitat measurements from each sampling point used in avian point-transect surveys on the Seward Peninsula in 2012 and the locations of those sites. Measurements include percent cover and canopy height of alder (Alnus spp.), dwarf birch (Betula spp.), ericaceous shrubs (e.g., Empetrum, Vaccinium spp.), herbaceous, lichen (e.g., Cladonia spp.), and willow (Salix spp.).
