Fishery Monitoring of Tailwaters in the Western US—Data
This data is a compilation of fishery monitoring data collected by state agencies over several decades in tailwaters downriver of dams in Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, California, and Oregon. Specifically, the data contained herein is summary data used in four generalized linear mixed models that were developed to assess the biological and hydrologic factors that influence rainbow and brown trout recruitment and adult size in tailwaters across the western United States.

Water Quality - Monitoring the migrations of wild Snake River spring/summer Chinook salmon juveniles

This is an ongoing Bonneville Power Administration funded project to annually collect, PIT tag, and release wild Chinook salmon parr in up to 15 streams of the Salmon River drainage in Idaho and subsequently monitor these fish through in-stream monitoring sites and downstream dams. The overall study objectives are to assess the migrational characteristics and estimate parr-to-smolt survival for Snake River wild spring/summer Chinook salmon smolts at Lower Granite Dam, characterize parr and smolt survival and movement out of natal rearing areas of selected streams and examine the relationships between fish movement, environmental conditions within the streams, and weather and climate data. This project also collects parr-to-smolt growth information on previously PIT-tagged wild Chinook salmon parr at the Lower Granite Dam sort-by-code PIT detection system each spring. A goal of this study is to characterize run-timing of wild fish to determine if consistent patterns are apparent and to provide daily information for real-time management decisions during the smolt out-migrations. Up to 6 water quality parameters collected hourly in 16 streams of the Salmon River basin in Idaho.

Fish Entrainment Monitoring - Spring Head of Old River, Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

Fish entrainment monitoring at the Spring Head of Old River Barrier, in the south Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. This project worked closely with the Vernalis Adaptative Management Plan (VAMP) studies. Fish data was collected using fyke nets attached to culverts in years that the barrier was installed and Kodiak Trawls in years with no barrier. Dataset also includes limited fish sampling using various methods prior to VAMP. Dataset spans 1992-2007. This data and metadata were submitted by California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) Staff though the Data Management Plan (DMP) framework with the id: DMP000386. The Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) funds habitat improvement work and associated monitoring in the Central Valley of California to increase salmonid populations in furtherance of meeting CVPIA fish doubling goals. This data package contains three datasets for juvenile White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) monitoring in the San Joaquin River (SJR) conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Lodi Fish and Wildlife Office. After two years of this experimental sampling program, it was discontinued due to low catches of White Sturgeon. SJR_Juvenile_WST_Set Data This dataset contains data on an experimental sampling program using trammel nets and setlines to catch juvenile White Sturgeon in the San Joaquin River. Sets were made at targeted locations from November-January in 2016 and 2017. One White Sturgeon (1000 mm fork length) was captured in a trammel net in 2016. SJR_Juvenile_WST_Catch Data This dataset contains data for individual fish caught in trammel nets or setlines in the San Joaquin River. Species and fork length were recorded for all fish. For White Sturgeon, girth, maturation, and tag information are provided. SJR_Fish_Taxonomy Data This dataset contains data for fish codes used in the Catch datafile. For each species that was captured, the Species codes are listed with the corresponding Interagency Ecological Program code, common name, taxonomy (Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species), and whether or not the species is native to the region.

Overview The Central Valley Project Improvement Act (CVPIA) funds habitat improvement work and associated monitoring in the Central Valley of California to increase salmonid populations in furtherance of meeting CVPIA fish doubling goals. This data package contains three datasets for adult White Sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) monitoring in the San Joaquin River (SJR) conducted by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Lodi Fish and Wildlife Office. The primary purpose for this sampling was to capture White Sturgeon and implant acoustic telemetry tags for a tracking project. Therefore, the data are useful for determining when and where White Sturgeon were captured, but they should not be used to determine actual distribution or abundance. SJR_Adult_WST_Set contains data from a sampling program using various methods to catch adult White Sturgeon in the San Joaquin River. Sets were made at targeted locations primarily from March-May in 2012-2018 (other dates were occasionally sampled). SJR_Adult_WST_Catch contains data for individual fish caught via gillnets, trammel nets, setlines, or angling in the San Joaquin River. Species and fork length were recorded for all fish. For White Sturgeon, girth, maturation, tag, and surgery information are provided. SJR_Fish_Taxonomy contains data for fish codes used in the Catch datafile. For each species that was captured, the Species codes are listed with the corresponding Interagency Ecological Program code, common name, taxonomy (Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, and Species), and whether or not the species is native to the region.
