Forest Service Visits 2014 Colorado Plateau
We calculated the intensity of recreation visitation in 2014 based on Forest Service (FS) visits reported in the National Visitor Use Monitoring System at the level of a National Forest (English et. al., 2002). Recreation use on FS lands is tracked at five-year intervals (2010–2014), therefore these data represent a rough estimate of potential 2014 visits. English, D. B. K., S. M. Kocis, S. J. Frequency of forest change across the conterminous United States from 1985-2020

We summarized annual remote sensing land cover classifications from the U.S. Geological Survey Land Cover Monitoring, Assessment, and Projection (LCMAP) annual time series to characterize the frequency of forest change across the conterminous United States (CONUS) between 1985-2020. Tabular output includes information on 1) the area classified as forest in each State by year, 2) the forest area in each frequency class (1 - 36 years) in each State, and 3) the forest area and proportion of total forest area that has changed (or not changed) in each State over the entire time series (1985-2020).

This database contains all long-term vegetation monitoring data related to elk (Cervus elaphus) reintroduction and management in GRSM. Each vegetation plot consists of an exclosure plot and a paired control plot. Also included in the database are all data related to exclosure damage from tree fall or other disturbance and exclosure repairs. All work has been performed by GRSM Resource Management & Science staff.

We will visit two 5k segments within GRSM as part of a larger research study on the Appalachian Trail to take an array of measurements on the condition of the A.T. tread and to map informal (visitor-created) trails, and assess all recreation sites (shelters, campsites, day-use sites). Our field crew has three staff and this work can be conducted in approximately 3 days. All measurements are non-destructive. No biological materials are sampled or collected.

This dataset contains the recreation opportunity information that the Forest Service collects through the Recreation Portal and shares with the public on https://www.recreation.gov, the Forest Service World Wide Web pages (https://www.fs.usda.gov/) and the Interactive Visitor Map. This recreation data contains detailed descriptions of recreational sites, areas, activities & facilities. This published dataset consists of one point feature class for recreational areas, one spatial view and three related tables such as activities, facilities & rec area advisories. The purpose of each related table is described below RECAREAACTIVITIES: This related table contains information about the activities that are associated with the rec area.RECAREAFACILITIES: This related table contains information about the amenities that are associated with the rec area. RECAREAADVISORIES: This table contains events, news, alerts and warnings that are associated with the rec area.RECAREAACTIVITIES_V: This spatial view/feature class is generated by joining the RECAREAACTIVITIES table to the RECREATION OPPORTUNITIES Feature Class. Please note that the RECAREAID is the unique identifier present in point feature class and in the related tables as well. The RECAREAID is used as foreign key to access relate records.This published data is updated nightly from an XML feed maintained by the CIO Rec Portal team.
