Hazardous Waste Manifest Data (CT) 1984 – 2008

Dataset Description: We know there are errors in the data although we strive to minimize them. Examples include: • Manifests completed incorrectly by the generator or the transporter - data was entered based on the incorrect information. We can only enter the information we receive. • Data entry errors – we now have QA/QC procedures in place to prevent or catch and fix a lot of these. • Historically there are multiple records of the same generator. Each variation in spelling in name or address generated a separate handler record. We have worked to minimize these but many remain. The good news is that as long as they all have the same EPA ID they will all show up in your search results. • Handlers provide erroneous data to obtain an EPA ID - data entry was based on erroneous information. Examples include incorrect or bogus addresses and names. There are also a lot of MISSPELLED NAMES AND ADDRESSES! • Missing manifests – Not every required manifest gets submitted to DEEP. Also, of the more than 100,000 paper manifests we receive each year, some were incorrectly handled and never entered. • Missing data – we know that the records for approximately 25 boxes of manifests, mostly prior to 1985 were lost from the database in the 1980’s. • Translation errors – the data has been migrated to newer data platforms numerous times, and each time there have been errors and data losses. • Wastes incorrectly entered – mostly due to complex names that were difficult to spell, or typos in quantities or units of measure. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in cooperation with the States, biennially collects information regarding the generation, management, and final disposition of hazardous wastes regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 (RCRA), as amended. Collection, validation and verification of the Biennial Report (BR) data is the responsibility of RCRA authorized states and EPA regions. EPA does not modify the data reported by the states or regions. Any questions regarding the information reported for a RCRA handler should be directed to the state agency or region responsible for the BR data collection. BR data are collected every other year (odd-numbered years) and submitted in the following year. The BR data are used to support regulatory activities and provide basic statistics and trend of hazardous waste generation and management. BR data is available to the public through 3 mechanisms. 1. The RCRAInfo website includes data collected from 2001 to present-day (https://rcrainfo.epa.gov/rcrainfoweb/action/main-menu/view). Users of the RCRAInfo website can run queries and output reports for different data collection years at this site. All BR data collected from 2001 to present-day is stored in RCRAInfo, and is accessible through this website. 2. BR data files collected from 1999 - present day may be downloaded directory in zip file format from (https://rcrapublic.epa.gov/rcra-public-export/?outputType=Fixed or https://rcrapublic.epa.gov/rcra-public-export/?outputType=CSV). 3. Historical data collected prior to 1999 may be ordered on CD. Please see contact information in this metadata file to order historical BR data. BR data are typically published in December of the year following their collection. Data must be received by authorized states and EPA regions if a state is not authorized to implement the BR program by March 1st of the year following collection, and are usually published in December of the year following collection. For example, data collected in 2001 would be received by states and EPA regions by March 1, 2002 and states and EPA regions compile the BR data submitted by facilities and load the state data set into RCRAInfo, the system which EPA Headquarters (HQ) manage. Then EPA HQ published the data files around December 2002. National Commercial Hazardous Waste Totals by Industry 2017 v1.1

This dataset contains 2017 national Commercial RCRA-defined Hazardous Waste by North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) 2012 6-digit codes. This dataset was generated with FLOWSAv0.3.1 by calling the getFlowBySector() function and passing "CRHW_national_2017" as the method name. FLOWSA is a publicly available python package that generates standardized environmental flows by industry (https://github.com/USEPA/flowsa/releases/tag/v0.3.1). The metadata text file included as a supporting document records the FLOWSA tool version and input dataset bibliographic details. New York Hazardous Waste Manifest Data: 2006 - 2018

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation requires shipments of hazardous waste from small and large quantity generators be tracked using a hazardous waste manifest. This tracking document must contain the names and addresses of the generator of the waste, transporter of the waste, and the destination facility of the waste. The manifest is also used to track the types and quantities of wastes being shipped as well as shipments that are rejected or re-directed.
