Herring Biological Database (Commercial) - NL Region
공공데이터포털
We present a long-term dataset of Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus) biological and catch information collected from 1974 to 2023 in NAFO Divisions 2J3KL, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Samples were obtained from commercial catches and processed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). Each record corresponds to an individual fish and includes catch details (date, area, locality, gear type) and biological measurements (length, whole and gutted weight, sex, maturity, gonad weight, spawning season, age). Standardized protocols were applied but have evolved through the decades.
Discrete water-quality data supporting Herring River restoration project, Cape Cod National Seashore, 1984-2017
공공데이터포털
Staff from the Cape Cod National Seashore, National Park Service (CACO NPS) began limited water-quality data collection in the Herring River Estuary as early as 1984. In 2006 a monthly sampling program was established for 14 sites to monitor nutrient concentrations, dissolved oxygen, and other constituents. This monitoring program is ongoing and has been supplemented with data from other CACO NPS projects and cooperative monitoring with the U.S. Geological Survey. With the anticipated restoration of the estuary, which has been diked off from the ocean for over 100 years, these data are critical in supporting the characterization of pre-restoration water quality. The data collected in the estuary from 1984-2017 have not been published and disseminated in one place to date. This data release is intended to address this issue and create a framework in which future data can be published. In preparation for publication, the data were compiled from several CACO NPS internal sources and were reviewed using very preliminary quality checks. The related USGS water-quality data are available in the National Water Information System (NWIS).
Larval fish data collected during shipboard surveys (NF1001 and NF1002) in 2010 in Vieques Sound, Virgin Passage and surrounding regions.
공공데이터포털
In conjunction with the Vieques Sound and Virgin Passage Transport Study, the USVI larval distribution and supply study completed its fourth research cruise during February 16 - March 15, 2010. Ichthyoplankton sampling yielded 330 samples (231 MOCNESS and 99 bongo) from 156 stations for a total of 61,611 larvae collected. MOCNESS (Multiple Opening and Closing Environmental Sampling System) samples were collected from 100 m to the surface at 25 m increments, while bongo samples were collected from just below surface (subsurface) for 10-minute intervals at each station. Samples collected using bongo tows for stations surrounding St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix have been successfully identified to taxonomic family level or beyond for a total of 8,107 larvae. It is too early to provide approximate percentage or assemblage compositions, however thus far, 71 families have been successfully identified. Visual identification is ongoing utilizing the most updated taxonomic keys available. A subsample from selected families of interest will be identified using genetic techniques. Spawning season data of Mid-Atlantic finfish, collected by various ships (Delaware II, Albatross II, Atl. Twin, Xiphias, and the Rorqual) as part of study "The Biology of Marine Finfish" done by Sandy Hook Laboratory of National Marine Fisheries Service, Highlands, NJ. Data parameters include: Vessel, cruise number, Latitude, Longitude, date, time, distance fished, depth, wind and current measurements, gear descriptions (mesh size, number of floats, length of trawl, etc), taxonomy, sex, age, stomach and gut contents, egg color, number, and condition. Data were originally recorded on a 9-track tape in EBCDIC (1600 BPI) and have been converted into current NODC data storage format. The documentation includes a detailed description of the record format.
