This data set presents images of the nucleus of comet 1P/Halley obtained by the various contributing observers of the International Halley Watch (IHW) Near-Nucleus Studies Network (NNSN) over the period 16 October 1982 to 12 April 1989. Observers around the world contributed to this data set, which consists of 3523 well-documented FITS images. The second version includes PDS format and standard updates, as well as correction of the various errata noted since the original publication.

The Astrometry Net of the International Halley Watch (IHW) compiled astrometric observations of comet 1P/Halley from observations made by professional astronomers from ground-based observatories all over the world. The data set comprises 6475 astrometric observations over the period 16 Oct 1982 through 9 Jan 1989, in addition to 158 observations from the 1835 apparition and 1696 observations from the 1910 apparition. The data from previous apparitions was re-reduced using modern star catalogs.

NASA's International Halley Watch (IHW) has created a Comet Halley Archive. The collection of data spans the full wavelength range as submitted by scientists to the IHW. The observations belong to one of the following Disciplines: Amateur, Astrometry, Infrared Studies, Large-Scale Phenomena, Meteor Studies, Near-Nucleus Studies, Photometry and Polarimetry, Radio Studies, and Spectroscopy and Spectrophotometry. The data collected by these nine disciplines were augmented by Spacecraft measurements. The data were submitted to IHW, but the evaluation and selection for the Archive has been the primary responsibility of the Discipline Specialist Teams for each network in cooperation with the Lead Center. The data from the Infrared Photometry subnetwork contains 2204 observations spanning dates from 1984 September 14 through 1988 April 08.
